Received a request for a collect call from the number saying it was call from Clinton Co jail from a "Lewis". I was instructed to press "1" to accept or "2" to decline. I hung up.

Gave me a number to cal for customer service. Then said I had a collect call from "Roscoe." Repeated this twice in one voicemail.

Got call tonite said "James " from Bates County Jail . I accepted charge (because it sounded like a friend of mine) but it hung up immediately. I called back and she said I would have set up an account and be charged $25 to speak to prisoner. I called Bates county jail (Butler, Mo.) because I was concerned about my friend but they said no one there by his name. I then called my friend and he was chillin' AT HOME!Clearly a SCAM!!!

Couldn't hear the name from whom call was from. It said free call from the local jail, but I was unable to understand who the call was from. Considering I know no one in the jail, I let it hang up. I wasn't about to answer it!

The company is Encartele. And it's not exactly a scam. County jails sub out their phone services to these scumbag companies who charge outrageous, 1980's long distance prices for a simple phone call. They capitalize on the misery of those who have had a run in with the law. Something should be done. Anyways, this call can originate from many different county jails.

I got a call at the middle of the night like around 2 or so. Anyways it said it was calling from Clinton Co jail from a Lewis or some like that. It also told me if i wanted to accept the call to press 1 to decline it to press 2 or to press 3 to talk to costermer service later on. I hung up quickly. Then they kept calling non stop.

This number called me but I didn't pick up and 1 minute later I got a voice mail that sounded like an answering machine so I just blocked the caller

I looked up the number and traced it back to a calling service that works for the Plattsburg County Sheriff's Dept (816-539-2156). I called them directly and they confirmed that it is a real call from a prisoner. If you give them the name of the person, they will confirm if that person is incarcerated, but otherwise it is hard to know who it is. I don't know the person, so I am guessing it is a wrong number. They told me to call 866-476-6723 and ask them to block my number. It was really easy to do.

This is a call from a company called Encartele Inmate Telephone Service. It is a service that sets up an account for inmates to call numbers that cannot accept collect calls. The person receiving the call is asked to provide a CC number to bill the calls to.
