I called and confirmed with UCCU as well that is a legitimate number. However, they don't list in on their website that I could find which if they did would call back on main number faster.
I am also a UCCU member and have also called and verified that the 866-620-1328 is their fraud alert phone service number and not a scam or nefarious person trying to take advantage of you. I believe the number is from a 3rd party service so it could also be tied to other banks or credit unions and not just UCCU.
Missed call from this # at 7:54 am! (Ugh- so mad, was up late w/ baby & was going to sleep in!
This number is not Visa Fraud but a real fraud trying to get your personal information. They tried to "confirm" certain bits of information that they should have had and were wrong about. Don't talk to them.
The caller was "investigating unusual or suspicious activity on my Visa card". He wanted me to verify my Zip code, a portion of my address, and some digits in my social security number. He told me 3 digits and I was supposed to verify by giving other numbers. I stopped giving information after the zip code. I'm calling my credit union tomorrow to verify the toll-free number he gave. This might be legit, but I've never been asked so many "partial verifying questions" with past calls about unusual card activity. In this day and age, it was more than I felt comfortable with, though security checks are needed.
I called my credit union and this number is legitimate. This is the company which monitors their Visa cards to prevent fraud. Score one for the good guys here.
Received a call claiming to be from UCCU Visa Fraud protection. I was asked to call an 866-620- number. I was unable to write down the last four digits, but I think it was this number.Points for this being a legitimate call: It was placed to the number that I have given to UCCU (I usually give a different number out), and it did happen right after I made a strange transaction.Points against: I can't find 866-620-anything on UCCU's website or on my card. When I called UCCU and asked about it, they gave me another phone number entirely.Points against a point against: The person who took my phone call at UCCU didn't seem to understand what I was saying. The number they gave me was for Equifax, which would work if I wanted to *report* fraud. Conclusion: Still got no idea what's going on with this 866-620- business. I will watch my card for weird transactions in case the call was legit, but I'm not saying it was.
They followed up! This time I used *69 and found the call was coming from this number for sure. Automated system. They had the last 4 digits of my card number and asked me for my zip code and the last 4 of my SSN (which is when I hung up). Scam, scam, scam, scam, scam.
Called the Credit Union and verified 1-866-620-1328 is a legit number. Called that number and verified everything was valid, even after my suspect purchase. The last 4 digits for the card is to make sure they're looking at the right account and you're looking at the right card.Zip codes are public information and the Last 4 of your SS# is a standard security question, so no worries there.Kudos to the security company for doin their jobs ^_^
