I had these folks calling me regarding debt my deceased father had on two credit cards. There was no probate and no estate. I simply stated my case in a written cease and desist letter sent certified mail, and within five business days of recievibg my demand letter they stopped calling me. Phillips & Cohen is a legit debt collector. You just need to prove your innocence of financial responsibility.
I don't need to prove my "innocence of financial responsibility" to anyone. You were believalbe until the last two sentences, by the way. Apparently you failed Shill 101.
They called my home number but didn't leave a message. My stepmother died nearly two years ago and my father handled her estate but since I know all the details, I KNOW there was no debt left. Jerks.
So they called again six days later. Since the number came up on Caller ID and I recognized it, I just answered the phone "Central station, do you have a crime to report?" It worked like a charm, I highly recommend it.
I receive the same calls daily from Phillips and Cohen. I do not answer them, I think everyone on this list should call this company 5 times a day and state Mr Phillips or Mr Cohen passed and you are collecting their debt. Maybe if we all tie up their lines they wont have time to harass people
Just received a letter from them for my husband who is still alive.. Saying their client recently received notification that Quinton $&&&$8& has passed away. Of course to collect debts that he owes.. My husband is in fact alive, sitting beside me as I type this. Definitely a SCAM!
I have received call after call from this company. My mother passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly 2 months ago and the first letter from them showed up in the mail 2 weeks later. The first call came shortly after. They were trying to collect on one of my mother's debts. I informed them on the phone that there was nothing in the estate to "get" - all she owned was a house of very low value. She didn't even own a car and was in a nursing home on Medicaid when she died. All she had was the house and her Social Security income - she didn't even have a bank account when she died, because her income was being sent directly to the nursing home. They repeated that they were not trying to collect from me personally, only from the estate. I repeated back that there was nothing in the estate. Then they asked if I wanted to set up a payment arrangement. I lost it with them at this point - and YELLED back at them "Set up a payment arrangement WITH WHAT?? What do you not understand about this?? The estate is empty! There is nothing to get!" They finally told me they'd note the account, but the calls and letters would continue. I told them to go right ahead - I have a call blocker and a shredder!!
My mother has been paying my deceased fathers debt to this company. She has paid over 7000 of an almost 10000 credit card debt. It was not in her name. Not a joint account. Not even an authorized user. Has anyone been able to be reimbursed through this company? I
My mother passed away 1 month ago. My brother and I have been paying her debts for a long time and after her death we paid everything off. We received a letter from Phillips and Cohen wanting to get in touch with whom ever was responsible for her estate. I googled this company and found this site. I knew it had to be a scam since we knew every debt she had and made sure we paid everything off. Her credit card was paid in full every month and we made sure it was paid off promptly after her death. We will NOT be responding to this letter and if they call we will not give them any information. I just hate that some people will be scammed by these people!
