My father-in-law passed away about 1 year ago. Last week, we mother got a phone call Phillips and Cohen Associates. The caller indicated thatt my in-law has an out standing debt and they are asked to collect it. Two days later she received a letter from P&C and ask her to this number to about the debt. The letter wasn't signed. I did some research and am sure it it a scam.It turn out my in-law notified the bank to switch the card to her name because she lost her husband. The info was entered into a credit card database and anyone can purchase it. I believe P&C purchase the data and are calling all deceased relatives to collect money. I told my in-law to hang up the phone if they called again. It is a SCAM.

Calls from this number repeatedly. On 1 occasion, 3 calls in 15 min. No messages left. I do not answer unknown numbers. Spouse deceased 5 years, not a joint account & will probated.

Got A call from this number, they asked if I ws the person handling the Estate for someone who I have never even heard of. I asked if they had the right number as I have never heard of anyone by that name. He said he was sorry he had dialed the wrong number and hung up. Obvious scam.

These idiots called my mother in law about 'settling' my mothers estate?!? Are you kidding me? I think they met like twice in 10 years! My mother didn't even have an estate & all of her debt was paid! Her CC were even overpaid. Such jerks to scam people in their time of grieving!

My sister pasted away recently, then these vampires began calling me and leaving no message. I am not gping to deal with them over debts that I have no obligation to pay. A stop has to be put on these companies as soon as possible.

My dad died almost two years ago and when he died, his debt died with him. I called this number back and asked what they wanted and was told , well we cannot give you that information. So you call me and you refuse to tell me why you called ( makes sense don't it ?? ) He said, do you want me to remove your number from our list, i said pal do whatever makes you happy, because it must not be important to you as to why you are calling. SUSPICIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no reason for anyone to be questioning my father’s “estate” or anything else at this point. Very hurtful.

Phillips & Cohen are a legitimate law office that does debt collections. They are not scammers. The office I work from deals with them on a pretty regular basis inasmuch as our office does a lot of probate work. Some people die with enough money to pay for their debts (and most Wills will instruct the executors to pay any and all debts first). While the executor and the family members are not personally responsible for the decedent's debts, the executor is obligated to pay the debts from the assets of the estate.My biggest complaint about this process is that it occurs so quickly after a loved one has passed. In my opinion there should be a grace period following someone's death to give the family time to grieve their loss.I feel bad that people have to endure these calls; however, Phillips & Cohen are doing their job in trying to collect the debts that are owed.
