Got a call from United HealthCare Coordination of Benefits. She knew that we had recently had a claim have trouble because of a possible double insured situation. I didn't give her any information other than to tell her we don't have any other insurance and she didn't ask for any other information. If you get a call from them and they ask for more personal details (SSN, address, medical history, etc), I would have them verify by providing you some information that no one else would have or some other way. In my case she didn't ask for anything I wouldn't mind anyone knowing about.
I received a voice-mail from this number. The person identified as being from the benefits coordination department with United Health Care. She left her number & extension, requesting a call back. I was suspicious, so I called the number on the back of my insurance card & asked for the aforementioned department. The person with whom I spoke at United Health Care confirmed that this was an illegitimate number calling me & there is no reason United Health Care would need to call me for benefits coordination at this time. He also stated that this has been an ongoing issue as some individuals are misrepresenting themselves as working for United Health Care. If in doubt, I'd suggest calling a reliable number to confirm.
If you're suspicious, please call the number on the back of your card and tell the customer service rep that you recieved a call from a representative in Coordination of Benefits and ask them to do a warm transfer so that you may hear the interaction between the two reps. You will see that it is 100% legitimate. We do not use the information you provide for anything except determining who pays primary on your claimsAlso, you will recieve the full extent of your benefits regardless of who see the claim first. If you don't provide the information that we request in a timely manner, and we later find that you have other insurance which should have paid, there is a chance that the company could recoup the money paid on your claims and that you could be left holding the bill. When in doubt, just call customer service with the name and extension of the person who called and allow the rep to transfer you.
This is a legitimate number. (I was suspicious because I received an email telling me to call and I hadn't heard of Optum before.)The representative knew exactly who my employer was, who was on my policy, etc. and only asked about whether there were secondary insurance.
I received a voice mail message from this number by a guy with a Mideastern accent asking for information on a questionable medical claim. I called the number on the back of my UHC card as recommended and tried to talk to a machine. That was an exercise in futility. So, if "OPTUM", as the guy said he's with, really wants to get in touch me they'll have to do it by snail mail.
This person identified herself as Maddy from United healthcare benefits dept. we do not have united healthcare. She left a message. When I called back I got voice mail. I left my name but no phone number. She has not called back.
Please learn to spell 'legitimate.' While Optum itself may be a legitimate company, unwarranted COB inquiries from unverifiable sources claiming to be Optum is not only questionable, it could place your personally identifiable information at risk. Call UnitedHealthcare directly or contact them through the myUHC portal. I would not knowingly share your information with third-parties who claim an affiliation.
If your personally identifiable information was compromised to a third-party CLAIMING to be Optum, they would have some of this information and would confirm its veracity. This is how a confidence trick works. Said representative could, in turn, use it for marketing, or for far more nefarious purposes. It would be best to contact UnitedHealthcare directly or use the myUHC portal.
