B101--you are the "expert" are you--when this # calls my house and asks for a person not living there and repeated says they are Citi-Bank and have an account with MY phone number --either as a "reference" or a co-signer. Sorry B101--you are mistaken--I have a debit card I use at my local bank only-make no purchases -use it only for ATM withdrawals when the bank is NOT OPEN--NOT USED FOR PURCHASES of any kind--do NOT have any debts and owe NO one. So why do they call my number. So your "you get calls because you owe money is flat our erroneous! Yes there are dead-beats out there but YOU are wrong in assuming--every one is.
I've been checking on Citi Bank and learned that the "small store credit cards" under the stores names include Home Depot, numerous Tire and Auto Repair shops with different names and in different areas of the country, like Big 0 Tires where I live, for example, and many others. I also learned that Citi Bank aka CitCorp is a world bank, and that first Saudi Arabian prince that recently came under investigation a week or so before being killed was one of the primary share holders. They are affiliated also with other credit card providers, Discover, and Capital One being 2 that I can think of off hand, and within the last couple of weeks made an agreement to take over providing Sears credit cards. Citi is a huge bank and any or all of us could have some small credit card that we think is one stores' card, and later find out that Citi is behind it. Who knows, maybe even Lowe's and large furniture stores who open credit for us is all part of City Bank.
THIS IS A SCAM!!!! I used to work at Citi... My husband gets the calls everyday... I know from the voicemails left that they are NOT citibank... Citibank ALWAYS tells you to call the number on the back of your card along with a 800# they would not just leave an 800# also if you DO answer and get a person on the phone... once suspicious of the call the conversation stops and you are directed to call the number on the back of your card so you can be confident! OH they also do not call themselves Citicards... Unless it changed is was CitiGroup and CitiBank
Citi is the bank behind these cards, that's why they're trying to collect if you have a late payment. It's all kinds of gas station companies cards, Home Depot, various Tire and Auto Repair shops, childrens' clothing stores, countless places. They are a world bank affiliated with Discover card and Capital One credit cards, I recently read they're taking over the Sears credit cards. They're a huge world bank, if you apply for a credit card somewhere, there's no way to know, but it could easily be one actually provided by Citi Bank, regardless of the name of the store.
You are correct, Cities Bank could be calling for a number of reasons ie; a late payment for Shell or some other company you owe & may be late on a payment. Call the number that's on your bill & ask if they're calling you. Pay it or get a deferred payment with a date etc & they'll leave you alone until next time you're late. If they aren't calling you then, put the # on your do not answer list in your phone & block it if you know how! It's that simple!!!
Was receiving these calls at my work number on a daily basis for two weeks straight. Always automated, even when I answered. Called back and spoke with someone whose first language was obviously not english. I refused to give my name over the phone to confirm my account. My husband and I do not have and have never had any credit cards. I explained this numerous times and the woman continued to ask for my name. I told her again and again that I was not going to give my name to a stranger over the phone when I dont have an account with citi or any other credit company. She then told me that the account was a goodyear account. I have never even purchased a goodyear tire or anything goodyear in my life. I take my car to the dealership and always pay cash. I was then hung up on. A second call resulting in being put on hold 4 times by the same woman. Who eventually told me that it was probably a wrong number and that they would remove me. SCAM.
