Automated voice claims to be from Visa Fraud Prevention Services. Had my name correct but an incorrect last four of my credit card. Could be a scam.
They keep calling but don't leave a message. I don't have a VISA card outside of my bank so I know this number is a scam.
This is a Visa fraud protection service. They are legit, I did not take the call from them, but noted the phone number and case number info and called my bank directly. My bank verified that this is a legit number for their fraud service provider.
Actually, even the bank does this incorrectly. You should have a PIN with which to authenticate a call from a bank related service. One should not rely on person to person connversation.
I got a call from this number immediately after I tried to put gas at a Chevron station, and the pump so to go inside to pay. It was 110 degrees that day, so I decided to just leave. I called the number, talked to the person, who had some information about my account and the recent attempt to put gas at the station but could not answer any of my other questions about the hold, or why it wouldn't let me pay at the pump. When I arrived home, I called Schools Financial. They confirmed that yes, that number is their Visa Fraud Department. Here is the basic scenario that might happen more frequently, especially with gas stations. You swipe your card, the station immediately does a test charge to see if there are funds available. My particular station does a quick $1.00 test. Because my Chevron station is locally owned, it doesn't show as Chevron, it shows as the station owners name and oil company. i.e. Bill Smith Oil. The lady at the bank told me that normally when cards are compromised, the scammers will do a test charge for a low amount to make sure the card is still active, then they proceed to drain your account. So when Visa saw the $1.00 come through, from an unknown oil company, they immediately thought my account was being tested. That is why they put a hold on my card and called me.The Schools agent told me that this might happen more and more, with gas stations especially, until all stations comply with a new law to install chip readers by 2018.Short story, if you get declined at a pump, and it tells you to go inside to pay, this is why. No chip reader. If you don't believe me, that's fine, I wouldn't either. Call the bank like I did.Hope this helps.
