My mother received a call from Brian Evans from the Bank of America Estate Department asking her to call him back at 1-888-221-4299. Her father recently passed away, but she has already spoken to BOA about paying off his <$4000 credit card with BOA once the court has officially declared her the personal representative of his estate. She is afraid it might be a scam and has decided to wait for something in the mail if it is legit.
About 4 months after my father-in-lawdeath I received a call from 1-888-221-4299 from a George Bond who said that he was with the estate department of BOA. There is no estate for my father-in-law and there is no one else who is liable for my father-in-law's debt. He said that BOA would settle for $4000, but he faxed me the letter showing the offer; I did not ever get anything through the mail. I called the BOA customer service number as listed on the BOA official website (not the number in the fax) to make sure this George Bond worked for the estate department and also he was able to offer the settlement. What I found out is that George Bond did indeed work for the BOA Estate Dept and the offer to settle the account was legitimate.
I see everyone is saying this number is being associated with Bank of America. I received a call from this number, let it go to voice mail and the caller stated they were from FIA Card Services. I don't have a BOA account but I do have an account with FIA, it is an American Express card through a local bank and managed through FIA Card Services.
I keep getting this call and no one on the other end. I called BOA and they said to cal this number: 1-888-299-1158 It's BOA Recovery number. The true one. I hope this helps people out here.
It's from FIA Card Services, assigned by banks, including BofA, to collect payment on past due accounts.
The new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau scares the daylights out of these banks, so feel free to contract them and file an on line complaint.
BTW, By Bank of America's calling you on their Unknown Caller 888 phone number, with no caller I.D. and no location identifiable to you as the recipient of that call. They are in violation of Homeland Security's Rules and Regulations regarding anti terrorism. They can be fined, closed down, investigated by the Feds, IRS, State or Local for this practice. They are better off looking for the Securities and Exchange Commission and putting the banks debt into an account that an insurance company will then look at as the debt of the Bank and take appropriate actions not to collect the debt, but to allow investors to purchase and distribute investment materials for that bank. I believe that's how the stock market and annuities accounts got started. When a person dies it's very rude to call their family for credit card charges that were incurred while that person was alive. In some states, it's illegal for a Bank to act as a debt collector, when most banks can absorb the debt of all kinds of tragic events. It's all about education folks. If your home went down to the ground while you were away, and your insurance company can't pay, the military usually moved into the area with a contract for rehabitating the property.I've never seen a discover card used anywhere.
Your State usually has a Probate Court who gives help to those who have lost loved ones to death.
I kept getting calls from Florida's Estate Department from that Bank of America's, when my loved one passed away. Your proper procedure is to find a State Attorney where you live, who knows how to deal with the Probate Court Locally. There harassing phone calls from 800 number could be SCAM's from people looking to cash in on your loved one''s assets if any. The other advice I would give is to contact either the Attorney General or the IRS or the FTC for further help if possible. The worst part about it, and so many using those 800 numbers won't give first and last names.
