I have gotten several calls from this # to lower my credit card interest rate.
Scam claimimg to verify recent transactions.
They said they were Visa fraud protection and needed me to call back.
This number has been calling me literally every 10 minutes for two days now.
I called the number on the back of my credit card and had them transfer me to the fraud prevention department. The fraud department said 888-277-6280 is a scam; it's not one of their numbers and there are no fraud problems on my account.
This is NOT a scam! I called 888-277-6280 when I saw the repeated call on my caller id and it was indeed a call from Visa Fraud Prevention. They asked me to verify the amounts that were charged to my card and the amounts were exactly what I had charged. If you call the number you can do the verification automated or speak to a rep.The reason I returned the call was that I had ignored a repeated 800 number call in the past and wound up having my card suspended.John
The call was Visa fraud prevention. I called back and was prompted to enter information by a computer, but I chose instead to hold and wait for a representative. She read back my bank name and the last four digits of my credit card number and then asked me to confirm some activity by my reading my street name after she had read the street number and then the amount of a series of transactions after she read the payees. No fraud.
This was VISA Fraud protection. I held on the line and a customer service agent started asking me for my personal information. I'm sorry, if you're the fraud department and you think the way to fight fraud is to call random customers and ask them for their personal information, you're actually opening yourselves up to be a victim of fraud in the future. At the point that you give customers an expectation that they'll ever receive a call from their financial institution and have to validate that the person the bank called is the customer by asking them their personal information, you're toast. Any Joe Schmoe can call anyone else up and pretend they're VISA to get the same information. Also, even if you look up the number by caller ID and find a site like this, that doesn't prove anything phone numbers can be spoofed (there are even web sites for it to make it really easy to do).I'm a customer of Charles Schwab and that's the card they were calling about, but Schwab themselves told me it isn't them it was VISA.I talked to VISA and they said that they never would call customers up, but Schwab themselves told me they do it all the time.DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION if they call you. Do not even give them your last name. Do not give them your date of birth. Don't play into this game.If you have a legit concern, call the number on the back of your actual credit card or you bank's main customer service #, don't call a number that someone left you on a voicemail.
This is a fraud, they tell you to put in the reference number and when it is not recognized, they tell you to put in your account number. I hit 0 to get an operator and it disconnected me. Do you give them your account number!
