I received a phone call from this number asking me to call back about an application through amazon. I did not apply for anything through Amazon. He immediately requested my social sec number which I told him I could not give to him . When I called Chase bank she told me this is not a number in their system!! She turned it over to the fraud dept.
I called my cc company to stop using the account and ask them to issue a new one.I am not sure if I can stop this scam.
******This number MIGHT have been a legit number in the past with Chase but IT IS NO LONGER. I called Chase directly through a known safe number (my mortgage contact) and they could not find this phone number in their system. The rep that I spoke with placed me on hold and contacted their credit account department and they said the phone call I received was bogus.******I received a call from an unlisted number and I didn't answer it. The caller left a voicemail stating they were with Chase Lending Services and that they needed me to call 888-609-7805 about an important matter. I was given a reference number in the voicemail as well.I called the number (today, 11/15/16) and spoke with a guy named Billy who asked me to verify my date of birth. I figured this was safe enough to give so I did. Then he asked for my social security number which I didn't feel comfortable giving. I told him that I was given a reference number on the voicemail and gave that to him. He then proceeded to ask me for just the last four digits of my social security number and I refused to give it. He then asked for my mother's maiden name to try to verify I am who I say I am. No, Billy, you aren't getting that either.I tried to figure out what the call was about and he said he had to remain vague because he can't verify who I am. He said he was calling from the credit application department and that I had possibly applied for credit and that his department usually calls when they have questions about applications. I told him that I had not applied for a credit card with Chase and he actually suggested that I call Equifax or TransUnion to check on activity on my account. This is really crazy sneaky given that my known/safe contact at Chase says the number is not associated with them and that they could find no information in their system about an account application with my name or info.
NO YOU ARE NOT SAFE!!! You must *NEVER* give out any info to a stranger who calls you. Your bank has your personal info and will *NEVER* call you for info it already has. You must take immediate action to protect yourself from money and ID theft. Call your bank ASAP, tell them what happened, and ask what you should do.
Regardless of whether 888-609-7805 is legit, you should *ONLY* call the number on the back of your card and *NOT* a strange number.
"Mike" at "Chase Bank" left me a message claiming it was in response to an inquiry I made. He gave me reference number 120102515935. I have never made any inquiry to Chase Bank.
I called the number and it turned out to be an Amazon.com credit card I had applied for, not knowing it was through Chase Bank. Amazon should disclose that informaiton to avoid this confusion. This number is legitimately Chase Bank.
I received a voice mail from 888-609-7805 and they left a reference number. I called back and gave them the reference number. I had applied for a Chase credit card through Southwest Airlines. I had other Chase cards and they wanted to balance the credit line among the cards. They were courteous and efficient. This is a valid number. Definitely not a scam.
