This number is a legitimate California Franchise Tax Board contact. I received a call today from this number and was skeptical, as he asked for my address and the last 4 of my social. As he could cite specific information from a letter that I had sent to CA FTB, I engaged in the conversation. I was never asked for any other info. Afterwards, I called the CA FTB at their 800 number, and I was reassured that the person was in fact an employee calling about my letter. So this number is legitimate
Just received another call from a Mohammed this time, saying he was from the "Franchise Tax Board". He asked for my address and last four digits of my SS#. I told him that I was advised by my local police department not to give that information over the phone and that from what I understood to be true was that government offices do not call you, they send a letter. I also told him that he could write down whatever it is he wanted to talk to me about, send a letter and I would answer accordingly. I told him that when I tried to call this number back it would not go through and he told me to call the "Franchise Tax Board" to verify. I told him I felt this was a scam and I would wait to get the letter from them. I tried and couldn't verify this number. He said that he would write the letter and I could answer when I got it.
A man named Jay claimed to be with the franchise tax board and he was assigned my case. I told him the IRS does not call people and that this is a fraudulent. I hung up on him. I believe it's just another scam.
Cheryl called claiming to be at station #2193 Return Warrant Department. She said I couldn't call the number back but she would call me the next day. I gave her no information but she knew my tax payments, check number and dates. Then she ended it with I hadn't done my taxes for 2018 which is absolutely not true.
I received a called from “Ricky” claiming to work for the FTB. The number he called on cannot receive calls. He left another number to return the call. 916-845-6897. Who would call from the Franchise Tax Bureau and say their name is Ricky?

Calls once or twice per week with voice msg "Brandon from CTS" call me back. WTF is CTS? No context, no real msg.
Phone number calls multiple times a day, once someone from my office picks up, it is dead silence on the other line. When you try to call back, it is a number that is not in service.
