Got a missed call on my cell phone with no message. Called back. Got relatively pleasant music for a long time followed by "Thank you for holding" repeated about 15 times followed by yet more music. Hung as I had already been waiting several minutes...
Seems this number is hawking an electronics design magazine. They call at work and ask for the guy who had the number before I was hired. I tell them he's dead, and I'm not interested. Have had a woman, a couple of white sounding men, and a whole bunch of illiterate dot-heads calling who I cant understand. I added the work number to the DNC list, so next time Im blowing them in. Its more an annoyance, but they picked the wrong person to annoy.
Received call at work offering a free subscription to the American Journal of Cardiology. Stated that they were calling on behalf of this journal. When questioned what company they worked for, was given "Vlan D Marketing". Appears not to exist. I too got just music when calling the number shown on caller ID.
Got a call from this number -- they said they were CNS Spectrum and wanted to give us a free magazine subscription. She wanted to speak directly with my boss which is a red flag to me. The person then wanted to record me and make sure all our info was correct, apparently already having it. Now most magazines are just mailed to us for free without cold calls first so this was suspicious. I put this person on hold to look up the number to see if it was fraudulent and she disconnected. This may not be a scam, but the only reason I would think that a person would cold call you to verify your info is to make sure your number is correct so they can sell it to as many telemarketer's as possible, much like replying to spam on e-mail. Why else would someone call you to verify your info if they already have it?With all the scams going around these days, I just don't trust any cold callers anymore. The only way I'll do business with them is if they give me a number I can call back so I can research them first. I guess the best thing to do is to tell them, "Due to potential scam, I'm not authorized to give out any information unless I can call you back." -- or something like that.
Same to all of the above. Be aware of any 954 area code phone numbers saying they are offering a free subscription to magazines. They also say you are already receiving the magazine and want to verify correct contact and mailing information. They call DAILY from different phone numbers, but same area code. Next time I will answer and put them on hold indefinitely. Unfortunately, I have to answer or it will roll to my boss' voice mail, which I do not want to happen!
These are valid calls people.. Also to you businesses putting your number on the do not call list it may cut down on it but if someone calls while your on that list they are exempt from the fines. Any phone # whether land Cell Satelite, etc that is actively promoted fro business purposes is exempt from the do not call fines I know I contacted the FCC myself. So say you hand out flyers for your mobile detailing business but also have that number on the do not call list if solicitors call you can asked to be removed from there internal database but they can't be fined for the first call contact.
NO - this is a subscription verification service for publishers of free trade journals.Don't be so paranoid.
These people are calling the company I work for and asking if certain people still work here. At first I was giving out this information then told them to mail any info the had to our address and I would forward it on, which was when the woman hung up. But now I just don't answer the phone when I see the # come up on caller ID. They tell me they are working for a financial info magazine. Also calling from 214-446-9828.
