This number is for ABSA's FICA (Financial Intelligence Centre Act) department. Their offices is located at 270 Republic Rd, Rand Park X 3, Randburg, Gauteng, South Africa. They called me about a dormant investment account I had with them several years ago, telling me that their system shows the account to be still open and active, and that I need to go to the branch to close the account.
I found the number listed in the Yellow Pages as belonging to ABSA. Their address is 270 Republic Rd, Rand Park X 3, Randburg.
Received a phone call this morning saying that I am receiving a refund from my previously owned credit card due to the interest rate which was wrongly charged. I then received an sms saying "Dear Absa client, We need your banking details to process the refund. Send an email to CustomerOps@absa.co.za 0861000224." I also thought it was a scam and was going to ignore it completely, but eventually went onto Absa's website and phoned a number from there. It so happens that the person who phoned me this morning was legit after all. I have now been asked to go to my nearest branch with my ID and one months bank statement to 'claim' my refund. The number 0861000224 also belongs to ABSA and belongs to the department who deals with these type of things. Hope this will help everyone else who is feeling uncertain.
Hi Everyone,I received a call on my cellphone at 15h07 today and the person's name was Nelson, who asked if I drew money from my account at an ATM a few minutes previously. . . I said I did. He then gave all my Fica details . . . although I mentioned my house number . . He also new my e-mail address and how much I withdrew??? He then sent me his name and the reference number linked to the call to my cellphone via a "sms" . . . I phoned Absa Bank and asked them to stop any withdrawals which may pass through my account. They advised that they would also check with their Head Office and advise their investigation and will report if their is any fraudulent contact regarding this number and those persons involved.I still await Absa Bank's reply.
