We lost our German shepherd and listed his missing on the Lost Dogs of Wisconsin website. The next day, I began receiving calls from an odd area code and phone number. The caller had an Eastern Indian accent. I had received an email from a volunteer from Lost Dogs of Wisconsin so was wondering why I was receiving a call from someone else besides the coordinator who was assigned to my case. The odd phone number called at least 5 times the first day and then called randomly numerous times the consecutive days following the first calls. I did believe it was a scam and will not return the calls,

It's a scam. First off there are no area codes in North America from 000 to 199. So the caller ID was spoofed (faked). You'll then find out they want you to use a cash wire transfer service to send them a 'fee' to ship your dog back, or it's for some 'administration' purpose. It's a variation of the 'free puppies to good home' scam.

Just listed my cat missing this morning on Craigslist and then got a call from this phone number. I didn't answer it, but just wanted people to know these scammers are alive and well (unfortunately).

Listed my dog as missing. This number called me and I did not answer but see from the previous comments they got my number from my misfortune of lising my sweet fur baby. Majes me really sngry that there are sick people out there taking advantage of someone during a difficult time.

LDOW is a totally free service, run entirely by volunteers. We will never charge you for anything we do. There are several of these scammers out there that will promise to help find your dog, when in fact they do nothing. It is best to simply hang up on them

as in an above listing --got call in texas from an Indian sounding person about Pet Rescue and how they would look within a 30 mile area & by posting signs, listing on internet etc etc--full service tracking of my cat. I listened briefly and said no thanks. i have gotten 2 calls today from this number and one yesterday and then also a call from a "restricted" yesterday . assuming its more of the same or some other game. I listed my number on craigs list under lost & found
