There are no area codes in the U.S. that begin in the one-hundreds. So I answered, just to mess with them. Sounded long-distance, and could hear n the background that the kid was in a boilerplate room. Very bad connection. I started out by saying "Did you know that there are no area codes in the United States that begin in the one hundreds?" He said "what?" I repeated myself. He said "what?" again. I said again "you're such stupid scammers that you spoofed an area code that can't exist in the United States, 126, dummy!" He hung up. Heheheh. I got a similar call yesterday from a different number: this must be one of the newer scams, I'll call it the "grandma scam."

... Thinking how stoopid these particular kids are, because every culture in America calls their grandparents by different affectionate names: bubbie, meemaw, abuela, granny, grams, and so on... sometimes a name that belongs only to that specific family, alone, as a tradition with a wonderful heritage story attached.

Why did you basically confirm that he has your actual name?

Addendum: they tried yesterday, that was their first call, it was a different CID... but I had ignored it because it looked scammy. People on this website said it was the grandma scam. So today they used yet another spoofed number. Same grandma scam. They're not very bright.

I"m not your grandma, i'm you aunt, do you know what my name is?""of coarse I do auntie!""oh really? what is it?""(uses my mothers name)""hey [***] i'm reporting this number"*hangs upIts a big scam asking for money, my mother had one a few months back about the same thing. and wanted her to pay his crash/hospital bill, when she said she did not have that much money asked her how much she did have....

same number called me at work and had the same story but about being my brother and in jail- was in a car wreck and that is why he sounds messed up--- caught me off guard cause he knew my name and then made some bs thing about writing down his case #D25559200C. A lot of my old friends have called me "brother" but I could tell it was bull but let him continue- Also he mentioned incoherently of course, something about needing my help because he was dunk behind the wheel and would likely see further jail time.
