my number has been unlisted for several years in addition to being on the do not call list. how do these idiots gain access to unlisted numbers?
They kept calling my house phone and cell phone. Finally listened to the message they play and it has an opt out option if you listen to it. Press 2 at the end to opt out and then they hang up - haven't heard back in a few days.
Second call today from this number. Trying to sell health insurance. Very politely tried to tell them to remove me from their list, hung up on me. I am registered with NO CALL. Bunch of [***].
No one was there. This a typical scam. How do our phone numbers get distributed to these places so far away?

It's only illegal to call with a fake caller ID if the caller is a debt collector. Faking caller ID is perfectly legal for everyone who isn't calling about collecting a debt.Robo callers are also perfectly legal. The only time they're illegal is when your number is on the Do Not Call List and you haven't done any business within so many days (6mo?). The thing is, whoever is calling is probably OWNED by some big company, like Chase or Proctor and Gamble or WalMart, with whom you regularly do business. So since you do business with their parent company, you technically do business with them, so they're allowed to ignore the National Do Not Call List. However, they are still legally required to stop calling if you ask them to.So ask who they're calling on behalf of, which telemarketing firm they work for, addresses, phone numbers, etc. Then ask to be removed. And if they don't, sue them in small claims court.
