I have been receiving calls from this number, they call once and call again right after. No message
Tried to ring my cell phone today at 1:10p. This is Clearwater Research, Inc of 1845 S Federal Way Boise, ID 83705. They actually do research for various government agencies and a few large corporations. So it *is* big government calling, and they *do* want to know everything they can't et through spying on us. Their web site mentions they specialize in market research for "new" medical products and programs. Sounds like the government trying to sell Obama Care to me.
I just called that number back. They subcontract to various state health departments to ask anonymous health questions. It's a local "health demographic". I simply asked to be removed from their call list, and he was happy to oblige.
I work for Clearwater Research, a company located in Boise, ID. We are contracted by various state health departments and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct their annual surveys. Phone numbers called are just randomly generated throughout the state. Because the numbers are randomly generated, they ask if it's cell phone because we are trying to reach landline phones in private residences. It's an anonymous survey, no personal questions are asked. The survey is called the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and has been conducted in every state since 1984. You can find more information about it at www.cdc.gov/BRFSS. (Also, for the "teen" posting, if you stayed on the line long enough to tell them your under 18 and it's your cell phone they would have removed your number from the system after verifying it). FYI: some states also do a shorter cell phone version of the survey, but only if you use or cell 90% of the time, or do not have a landline at all.
Oh and as far as cell phone calls, all numbers are hand-dialed, it is illegal to use a "robo-dialer". Which is why they immediately confirm the number to make sure it was dialed correctly.
If you listen the caller they can tell tou exactly what survey answers are used for, or you can visit CDC.gov/BRFSS and click on your state and it says what the survey has specifically been used for in your state.
Amber, I have said multiple times to the caller that I do not wish to participate, and don't even live in the state they are calling for, but still receive at least a daily call. This is not ok to do. If someone says they do not wish to participate your company needs to be very strict about respecting people's wishes. It feels like harassment, which I doubt is what your client, the health departments, want. This gives them a bad rep--as witnessed by the tangential threads here that have been provoked by these calls.
Your colleagues need to respect people's wishes when they say they do not want to participate and your company needs to have a very clear policy about this. I don't even live in the state they are calling for but they continue to call after telling them multiple times that I do not wish to participate. I doubt harassing people is what the health departments and CDC had in mind when they hired you. But that is exactly what it feels like, and it will have a very negative impact on people's views of them.
