Actually it pays to be rude to them. My adult son picked the phone and told the caller to get lost. A few days later we get a letter from this company apologizing for the intrusion , including a letter of explanation and a new dollar bill. They say that they will call again. So they appear to be providing positive reinforcement to those who are ride when this firm calls.

Ignore, nuisance

2 weeks ago I changed our generic greeting on the answering machine to this: "hi we can't come to the phone right now. if you're friends or family please leave a message. if you are a telemarketer, trying to sell something in some way shape or form, taking a survey or any other uninvited call, please hang up. we do not accept these calls." Remarkably, 95% of the callers hang up after "if you're friends or family..." It has cut the number of "beep/air" messages down considerably! Unfortunately, these scarborough bozos are in the minority now and left a long air msg. How sad we pay ridiculous $ to provide a vehicle for these roaches to harass us and disturb our peace. Friends & family rarely call the landline. But I was glad I had it when friends couldn't get me on my cell to let me know my 90 yr old mom had fallen. Carriers like to lock in your landline with your internet and tv. So we're kind of stuck. Yeah, we could go through hoops and change everything all around with the carrier, but we shouldn't HAVE to. We have a right to peace in our homes. These jerks should respect our privacy. Pay the postage and put the pitch in the mail.P.s.: My dentist's office called with the appt.reminder and she liked the message!P.P.s: I love the poster who thinks 'just hang up' is the answer. We are on the Do Not Call List, and unlisted and they are still calling even at 9:18 PM.
