Indian fellow called saying he was from Windows department at microsoft. He had me press windows key and R and then do a command that showed multiple errors on my pc. I played along for awhile and then asked him where he was from and he said Bangalore India. I asked him if he was going to lock my computer and then charge me for unlocking it. I then asked him how many people in a day fall for his scam. He hung up.
Indian guy claiming my computer called him. When I asked him to remove my phone number off his call list. He responded by calling me a mother f______ and a sob. And then he hung up the phone on me.
Caller ID said "Wireless Caller/1-234-321-3432"; when I answered it was one of those phishing calls claiming to be from "the Technical Department of Windows Computer" and-from the background noise-clearly from a call center. The heavily accented man on the other end gave his name as "James Martin" and gave me a phone number with a 201 area code. He then claimed he could prove it was a legitimate call because he knew my Windows license number. Curiously, he said it didn't matter which of my Windows computers I checked, then directed me through a procedure that he said would bring the license number up on the screen; he did successfully read to me the number that displayed; the problem is that it was the registry number for handling ZIP files (the registry number is the same across Windows installations) and NOT the Windows license number (which is actually on a sticker on the hardware, it's not kept in unencrypted form in the software). I told him he had just proven that he was, in fact, a fraud and that I intended to report the call. After that he hung up.Bottom line: do NOT give any information to anyone calling and claiming to be from Windows: Microsoft does not call customers.
Get at lease three calls a week from this number. I tell them to stop calling me. Have even said operator this is the number I want to report to the police. They (caller) says go ahead call police. I can't give you the number of times I don't answer this caller. How can I stop them.
They had called several times at all times of the day and I never answered it, all I found out when I called back is that it is a Verizon customer. After looking up the number and reading about the scam, I decided to play along. The next time they called, I answered, but this was a woman with a heavy accent, not a man. I listened to her talking about security issues and how I should address the problem immediately and by giving her access to my credit card, they would be able to fix my computer issues immediately. She never mentioned Windows or Microsoft specifically. I said sure, I definitely want to save my computer so I gave her random numbers for my credit card, along with a random 3 digit security code and told her to have a very nice day and then I asked her..." so how long have you been pulling this scam on people?" and then CLICK....they haven't called back since. I'm sure there will be others that follow from different numbers, but I'll just keep plugging away, one call at a time. LOL
Look up Test Code VT 802-201-5896. Same person!!Received call from 234-321-3432 at 11:20 AM west coast USA time on a weekday. Caller shows up as Cell Phone OH. Phone rang 3 times. We have received these call also from a number that says Test Code VT.
This number has called my house 5 times today saying they are from Windows support and the need to get into my computer to fix something. The guy had a very heavy India accent. On the last call I messed with him and told him to get in and fix it. I have a Linux computer. He couldn't get in and kept asking me to check stuff in Windows. I told him I don't have Windows and he hung up. When I traced the call it says it was from Bangalore India.
