Several call, sometimes more than once a day.I never answer them and there is never a message.Caller ID: charity pickup
These people WILL NOT stop calling. They call too late in the evening. I have asked to be taken off their list. I have been polite but the calls keep coming. From now on, every time they ask if I have a donation I am just going to say yes so they waste their time sending a truck. I'm sick of them. I am done trying to be polite.
I keep receiving calls, at least 10 a week. I have talked to them politely, I have been rude, and I have asked to be removed from the list, to no avail. I keep blocking the numbers as they come through, but every few months, they call in through a different number that I have to block again. I have been dealing with these guys for years and have had no luck getting them to stop calling. It is the telemarketing service, not the charity that is harrassing.
I have been getting several calls from this number since last week. I don't answer they don't leave a message. I am on the National Do-Not-Call list.
I have also started to get calls from this number. I tried calling them back and got no reply. Bizarre.
The reason that this one Denver phone# is associated with multiple charities is no surprise to me.I'm pretty sure I can guess the reason: A for-profit company with a few trucks, a big warehouse and a long list of flea market owners who buy from them is using the names of multiple legitimate charities to make a nice profit for themselves. They turn over a percentage point or two of their profits to the charities, in exchange for permission to use those charities' names when they cold call. The payoff for the charities is they get a check every month, however small, for doing nothing; not even having to lift a single finger. The risk to them is their good name gets tarnished with people angry at the incessant cold calls all day and evening with the charities' names on the caller-id. But because of the steep drop in donations to charities across the board these last 2 years, they're increasingly desperate and more willing to risk their good names with this kind of a setup.A former roommate of mine made a good living by moving from city to city, contacting some local, legitimate nonprofit (usually the Chamber of Commerce), and offering them this deal: You let me use your good name to "raise money for a worthy cause" and I'll give you a percentage of my profits. The only thing you have to do is cash my checks to you every month. He bought pallet-loads of garbage bags at wholesale cost from a Denver factory, because that's an item that ALL businesses use. Then he cold-called local business owners/managers, with the line that he was "raising money for a good cause: the Chamber of Commerce". Many of them bought his overpriced bags because they felt like they were supporting a good cause (1% true), and these were products they used anyway. His overhead was almost nothing. For the phoners, he advertised in the local college paper for girls wanting to make a few extra minimum-wage $$ in the evenings. He leased a realtor's office for next to nothing because it wasn't being used evenings anyway, and had lots of phones and desks. He didn't even pay for phone lists; he tore my phone book into pieces along the binding and handed them out to the girls. Ticked me off, I have to tell you. I made him get me a new one. ..... But I digress.....
I also received calls from 303.232.4483. I called the number back and the phone was answered as "Lupus Pickup". I believe the Lupus Foundation is a non-profit that is allowed to call even if you are on the No-Call List (as we are also on the no-call list).
They are calling to let you know that they will be having a truck in your area, and if you have items that you would like to donate to the Lupus Foundation a Non-Profit Organization( I to am on the no call list)
They call nightly, consistently during dinner time. We have not been answering; but tonight was the last straw and I answered and immediately read them "the riot act" about not being interested in whatever it is, being annoyed at the incessant calling and the calls during dinner time. There was no sign of a human or recording on the other end, so I hung up.Slightly tempted to reach out via the website cited above, but that would just give them more contact information and could be used in some perverse way to assert they have a "relationship" with me.*sigh*Unfortunately, they call on our actual landline, not our Google Voice number, so there is no easy way to block them.
These people get around the Colorado and national no-call lists by being a "charity" -- in this case the Lupus Foundation. An investigative report by a Denver TV station revealed that Lupus DOES make some money from these guys' solicitations ... ONLY 1 PER CENT after the marketing company pockets 99 PER CENT.
