Just received a call from this number. Since we know a Kenneth Brown. Asked for my husband first name, is he home? Yelled No and slam receiver down. So much for any governmental protection against scammers and unwanted telemarketers. Calls now on landline and cell phone.
I got a call from 304 743 8823 and stating that they observed some malicious software was installed on my windows laptop and the rep is asking me to shut down the laptop. When I asked for more details and the rep gave all [***] details.
I get so many calls from these people. Well scammers! It's so frustrating. I get up to answer the phone and then I see the number, automaticly I know it's a scammer. My health isn't good and these calls are very nerve wracking ! I get about 6 or 7 calls a day or evening. They call clear up to 9:00 o'clock at night.I'm up early so I go to bed early ,they wake me up all the time. How can they get by with this harassment! Isn't it against the law? Can't these numbers be traced?its the same people most of the time. I wish they would stop! The caller just now was from Milton number 304-743-8823 that's what was on my caller Id.Another guy sounds Iranian his name is Peter, then an Amy calls and says she's with the IRS. All lies I'm sure!
Tried to get me to log in to Support.me and download the application so they can remote into my computer!
When they call long distance like this ,who pays for the calls? Does anyone know how they get by calling long distance to all thse people and no one pays?
Received a call from "Michael" from "Computer Service Company" who alerted me to a serious problem with my computer and he will help me with it (heavy Indian accent). I told him that I believe he is trying to scam me out of money and to please hold while I record the conversation and patch the police department in a conference call. He hung up.
They use the internet connection otherwise known as VOIP(voice over internet protocal) phone service, not traditional long distance through a phone company. It's cheap and they can spoof any number they want to appear on caller I.D.I agree the phone companies need to crack down on this barrage of thieves trying to rob us of our hard earned money. There has to be a way to give us more control of who we, the paying consumer will allow to ring through. If it's a number we have not entered to accept it should not ring through.I currently have that service for my landline through my cable provider but it does not work when a number is displayed such as " unknown, private, out of area and so on". If they don't display a number it should not get through.Since activating this feature on my landline of only allowing numbers of people I want to call, I only get calls from friends and family but every once in a while when a person calls with "unknown" calls it comes through. Of course I never answer and they never leave a message. Still annoying though.I'm hoping some powerful CEO of one of the major carriers gets barraged with scams as that seems the only way they will care enough to change things.
