Rule of thumb for calls. If you do not recognize the number, shows unknown caller, 555 exchange or other notes, don't pick it up. When you answer it gives the message to the caller that someone lives at your number and they'll keep calling. Just don't answer it. If it's important, they'll leave a message.
Just got the same call as previous posters from "Windows Support" from this number. His name was "Sam Wilson" and he was going to help me "fix" all of my computer problems. I knew he was a scammer, but I could hear other "technicians" in the background talking to others and getting into their information. There has to be a way to warn others about this scam.
This is a scam! Do not provide them any information. I received a call from them whereby a gentlemen who seemingly in a call center in another country told me he was from Windows and that my computer had been sending out error messages all week and was I aware of that. He then offered to walk me through, step by step, on how to fix it. I told him that just because he says he's from Windows does not mean he's from Windows and their was no way I was giving him access to my compute. He hung up on me.
Got the call from 'Windows' and mentioned Microsoft also. told me they were monitoring my machine and there were many 'hacker files on my machine." showed me the many, many files -- over 3K files.. etc, with lots of other trouble spots.I believed it because my machine had acted quite differently the previous day. They 'played' with my machine for quite a while. Paid them.. and now reversing charge and getting a new card!!! What a SCAM!! All voices were male Indian; said they were PC Repair and Service in Phoenix, AZ. NO SUCH PLACE!! BEWARE!!! Sounds sincere, understanding.... Got a return call RE: my complaint call to their 800 # ---800-480-5137. Female Indian voice ..reassuringly: "call their 800# ...and please do not entertain any thoughts about your computer."
