I got a collect phone call from "the Newton County Correctional Center" asking us to phone 472-832-329-6811. Supposedly a relative was "being held in the federal building downtown on Congress St." I was asked to phone "Sgt. Ramirez" and was told that the extension was 472, but that it was necessary to dial the extension first "on this system." The phone call came from area code 402, which is Nebraska. My number is in Texas. I did not phone Sgt. Ramirez. I have no relative who could conceivably be being held in the federal building in my city. I presume this is a scam and that anyone who dials the 472 number is billed a very high rate per minute.

Called three times and left no message. The third time the name that came up on my phone was Authors Club president. I answered and the caller then said they were collecting on a debt, claimed they were recording the call. Scam.
