Received call from 617-356-4651. Did not recognize number, therefore didn't answer. Did reverse check on the number and ended up here reading the posts from other people. I called the number back out of curiosity and got a message from "Verizon" that said the number had been disconnected or was no longer in service. The original call came in at 5:44 pm and I called back at 5:51 pm, so apparently their machine is programmed for callers to get that message or something else is wonky with this caller and their system. I left the number on my phone but set it up as a new contact "verizon disconnected number" so that I will recognize it in the future.
One other important point got glossed over on DNC, and very few paid attention. Even for the brief period DNC actually worked, it never applied to calls from outside the country. If you think about it, how can U.S. government take enforcement action against callers from Delhi, Havana, Nigeria etc.? Except for some rare instances such as NYSE stock fraud, there's nothing our regulators could do. So in this case we're talking about a prefix from greater Boston MA, but that doesn't mean the call is being placed from there. If this illegal robocall originates from some bedroom in the Ukraine -- and it may -- DNC is meaningless.
It is definitely NOT Verizon. I listened to about 45 seconds of the auto spiel that makes it sound like one is actually talking to a real person. Robo caller even said, hello can you hear me, it waited a split second then said thank you, that's good, lets get started. I tested this by answering the questions wrong. The robo caller said, "I'm sorry we didn't understand you". Then it would repeat the question. The robo caller went on to say we recently stayed at one of their resorts and didn't get the free gift we are entitled to. Then it would ask me if I had a valid credit card. It was at this time I hung up and blocked the number. Clever scam that would probably catch a few people off guard, particularly seniors.
That was a robocall and they have to be blocked by calling your phone service provider or going online to your account on the provider's website. You can block that particular phone number. The robocalls are calls dialed by a computer controlled program that automatically dials numbers in sequence and so "no call" lists do not help. I have blocked each call and of course some totally different creep calls on another number from another scammer show up in a week or so...One at a time. Your cell phone may have an easier way to block. The iPhone can block calls by pressing the icon to the right of that particular number on the listing of previous calls under" recent calls" screen and you can choose "block this number".
What is the point of the do not call list if no consequences are doled out to the offenders? Who do we report these calls to? I am sick to death of these calls. I've had two today. One from the "irs scammers" and the 2nd one from 617 356 4651. How do we get someone's attention to put an and to these annoying calls? I think i'm going to try going to my congesswoman - elizabeth warren to see if she has any thoughts. There is a bill in either the house or senate to end robocalls.
Call recording said Student Loans might be forgiven by the Feds..... Just answer two questions.Looking over the entries, looks like this number is used for just about EVERYTHING!
