just got a call from this number - when I answered there was silence then a beep then disconnected. When I called the number back I got a recorded message from Verizon stating the # has been changed. ???
I have a brand new business number - it was connected less than a week ago. Today I received a call from 617-356-4651. I haven't given this number out to anyone yet. Oh, and after 35 pages of pissing and moaning about the DNC registry, has anyone figured out who this caller IS ??
That's 100% correct. And 100% wishful thinking. No one is going to do a damn thing about it. The "exceptions" to the rule are more numerous than the laws are which supposedly protect us. For instance: if you've ever given your number out to anyone and have not limited their sharing it to other, interested 3rd parties you're stuck; if they are a charitable organization- even if already busted and doing jail time, they can still prey on people; if they are a government agency including campaign(ing) organizations, political agendas, social agendas, fund raisers, any kind of politician with any kind of agenda; police , firefighters, do gooders; credit card companies. Anyone or any organisation for which or to whom you've *ever* supported by providing your number, any time you have entered a contest, any time you've completed any type of application, all of these groups have been given permission to call you *and* have your permission to share your information unless you have specifically and in many cases in writing limited them or have denied them permission to share your information. How many times have you have been forced to provide your phone number ? If you've done *any* on-line research which requires an answer (Kelly Blue Book, new/used car research for instance), lists you've joined (Disqus, Yahoo, LinkedIn, Groupon, Living Social, all the Greeting Card sites, Weather sites, News Sites). Then there is Social Media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, PinTirest, Ello, HomEc-101, Yahoo, Bing, YouTube) anything and everything you do, if you've provided an email and or your phone number, you have willingly exposed yourself. Those are the *legitimate* sharing. Factor in the illegitimate , illegal sharing, info illicitly provided or hacked , that which you have not expressly provided or given permission (perhaps your kids have done so on your behalf....) well, you get it... we are all screwed. If you use a cell phone, you've been hacked. ATM cards, you've been hacked. There is nothing we can do about it except load up on blocking equipment OR stop answering the phone OR, if you never want to buy anything again, stop proving contact information. There is one think you can do to limit what is shared, besides HIPPA stuff: CALL THE NUMBERS PROVIDED IN THE PRIVACY POLICY INSERTS SENT BY all of YOUR BILLERS , AT LEAST ONCE PER YEAR which give you a chance to LIMIT [YOUR BILLERS ] ABILITY TO SHARE [at least *some* of ] YOUR INFORMATION TO THIRD PARTIES bla bla bla..
Is this a sign the DNC system is partially working?I too get daily calls from this number as well as others that always disconnect a second or two after I answer. I'm wondering if the caller's sytem is set up to terminate calls that are on the DNC list...but only do it after a number is dialed by a computer.
I haven't had my land line very long and already Verizon must have sold my information to everyone because I am getting all the spam calls. Getting calls from states I have no relatives or friends or former business contacts like Townsend Montana. I wonder if there is a way I can find out who had the number before me. I am wondering if there are telemarketing firms working out of the plains states or telemarketers are really based in India but are triangulated through satellites to make it look like they are calling from somewhere in the US because I have been getting blitzkrieged with phone calls from Advent Global from various states. I wanted to ask if any one who posted here is out of work and looking for jobs through the major job search sites like Monster.com and Careerbuilder. I think businesses are trolling job search engine sites for personal information.
same thing missed call nothing. called back and said this number has been changed or disconnected. My number is on all DNC registries so not sure if they are working or if these companies just are not abiding by it.
