I have a $290.36 pending debit charge on my account the number on says Facebook.com*cre......Penned I November 19 2013
Yep, it's a scam. Scammer probably got the card number through an online purchase somewhere. I was hit with two $50 debits from Facebook's ad depatment last week that I missed then today was a $100 debit then a $250 debit back to back. They start off with small debits to see if you notice, then increase the amount to get as much money as possible from your account before getting caught. My bank said the debits would probably have climbed to the $1000s until my checking account bounced. Call your bank, cancel the card, hopefully get reimbursed by the bank. I called the "650" facebook call center number to ask what did I buy, but there is no live person. Instead you are asked to leave your credit card number instead (and probably other personal financial information). Don't wait, call the bank immediately and refer them to your internet research. If your bank says call FB to remediate, tell them a machine is asking you to leave a recording with more personal/financial information. That should get your bank to act quickly.
I suspect Zynga as well. I just recently started playing Texas Holdem but my account has been suspended twice for no apparent reason. Never purchased anything thru Zynga, no CC# linked to it, and account suspended for suspicious activities... WTF! For what reason, I have no clue. My best guess is maybe because I do use my IPhone to go online and reserve hotels while I'm traveling. Somehow that could have registered my CC# to other apps I have on my IPhone. Deleting the app ASAP.
They got me totally for over USD 300.00 about dozen times USD 20-40 each time within one month from 11 Jul until 12 Aug. On 12th Aug I discovered that my VTB bank had blocked the card by itself when I was trying to buy some food in a shop. After visiting the bank and reading a card account statement I realized the fraud. My Visa credit card is nominated in Russian Roubles, I am living in Russia the most time of the year excluding short vacation periods but the charges by Facebook have been in INR (Indian Rupees) converted into Russian Roubles! Same as Dave I never purchase anyhing from FB and same as Frank very rarely make online purchases (just buy airplane tickets and book hotels).
I was hit yesterday on my business account. They charged 3 times in 30 minutes, totaling over $2400.00. Luckily, I started get texts from my bank about suspicious activity and called in right away. But they still let the charges go through, and will have to rebut them after the fact. I don't use Facebook for business, and Facebook does not have my credit card on File. THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE BASED ON OTHER PEOPLES POSTS AND MY OWN EXPERIENCE. Hackers are getting card information from either Itunes or directly off of my IPAD. That is the only place where this credit card was in software on any device.
Found a charge by fb and this number. Called the bank and got it stopped. They shut down my card also.
I also had an illegal fraudulent charge from the phone number to facebook ad. REPORT TO AND CANCEL YOUR CREDIT CARD IMMEDIATELY!
We were charged $923.64, and lucky we have instant alert with our bank, so I new right away - within minutes - that someone had fraudently charged our account. They use differet Charge Info...our bank statement showedFACEBK*KP3BG7JWC2 650-543-7818 When we tried calling this number, only got recording 'all lines are busy, call back ...., but DON'T CALL BACK, although it's probably too late at that point. The bigger point to me is this: How is it that a national bank, (one of the top five u.s.banks), can't enter some simple program into their computer system so that when any charge with that phone number comes in, it is automatically NOT charged, and/or rejected? As I read the comments on this scam, I see posts dating back from 2011!
