Said I won federal grant. Knew it was a scam but let him go through his speech. He asked for my bank account so he could deposit check, I told him I just hapoen to be in DC and would pick up the check in person, he hung up. Low life scammers.
I received a call from this number in regards to being selected for a federal grant in the amount of $10,278(?) and that the call was from the US Grant Dept located in Washington, DC. They said the only way to receive the payment was through either western union, money gram or direct deposit, total scam alert; however, the caller was able to verified my name, address and number so that was slightly alarming. When giving me the code/number to be able to receive that money, they got frustrated and hung up on me because I asked them to spell it out phonetically so I got the letters right, sounded like it started with MC. Upon recalling the number, it was unable to be reach as dialed. Scam number, please be careful.
Just called me saying I have been "selected" to receive GRANT MONEY from "US Department of Health & Human Services"! I told him that is strange because I actually work FOR the US Department of Health & Human Services and we don't give out grants!!! He hung up. LOL
It's obviously a spoofed number guys, there are only 3 digits in it... and the sequence repeats itself (maybe it will help if I change where the dashes go?)6545- 64 - 6545
When I got this call I answered it and nobody was on the line. When I called the number back I was told it was a nonworking number. This is obviously some sort of scam call.
My deepest apologies to "A Nonie Mouse", it was never my intent to take a name that was being used by someone else. It was 4 am and I was jet-lagged & exhausted following a 19 hour flight, so I really wasn't paying any attention to names. My initials are A. N. M. & I've been using that screen name for decades whenever I posted somewhere I had no plans to revisit. I only saw the responses here because I left my browser open to this page and it refreshed when I woke my iPad again.
this number called about government grants, wanted to give me 7543.00 for 250.00 processing fee. said they would even send it to a walmart. I called police and they basically said people are calling from indian and the phillapines and routing their numbers through online phone numbers like google voice and apps like textphone and they are impossible to track down since they are not even in the country.
I realized when I posted yesterday that the number began with a country code, not a state code. Having three digits of the series repeat instead of four STILL increases the likelihood of the number being spoofed, when weighed along with all the other known factors. (Although even if was not spoofed, the calls might not originate in Singapore.)Your last question is simply absurd. Why would ANYONE want to "pose" as someone else on a board for reporting phone scams?
This number has been harassing me saying they are some U.S. Federal department. Obviously not since the lady has extreme difficulty speaking English. Wish a stop would be put to it. I only get more rude.
