John is correct - I called Chase directly and had them transfer my call to the fraud department, and i did get confirmation that the 800 number is a valid # and not a scam.
I applied for an Amazon Credit Card which is issued by Chase. I received a call asking for verification. I was not willing to give my information over the phone and the agent stated I could call Chase Customer Service back and be asked to be transferred to the Verifications Department. She gave me a reference number. I called Chase at 800-945-200 and the situation was immediately resolved. It turns out the only thing they needed to verify was my address! If you are concerned tell them you will call them back and look up the number yourself.
18002788830 is NOT A SCAM! It is a LEGIT Chase Fraud Verifications no. The department calls up customers who has a consumer alert set on their credit report (who have been victims of IDENTITY THEFT) and even customers who recently just applied for a credit card with Chase directly or any other merchant (Continental, British Airways, Southwest Airline, Toy R Us, AARP, Marriot, Hyatt...etc). If you didn't know it yet there are so many banks out there who services credit cards for different merchants. They leave messages on answering machines ONLY to phone nos. that verify to the customer (name on application). They say the they are calling from Chase Fraud Prevention SERVICING .......(merchant name) and needs to verify info. The reason being why information are not provided on voice messages its because it can be picked up by anybody and call and pretend that they are the customer. They've had customers who are so happy about the service that this department has done -- due to the fact they these customers know their identity are being protected. I'M SURE YOU'LL BE SO THRILLED TO HAVE SOMEONE USE YOUR IDENTITY AND OPEN UP A CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT WITHOUT YOU KNOWING ABOUT IT THEN YOU JUST RECEIVE A STATEMENT IN THE MAIL FOR CHARGES THAT AREN'T YOURS! THEN IN THE END YOU BLAME THE BANK WHEN THEY DON'T NOTIFY YOU ABOUT IT....SHEEEZZZ!CAN'T EVEN PROVIDE A CORRECTLY FORMED SENTENCE????? DUH...as if you can...I don't think it Chase even cares from what nationality you belong to as long as you do your job the best way possible to earn an honest living. Unlike such racist as yourself!
Hmm... they told me they were "United Fraud Prevention". I asked "United what", and they clarified "United Airlines"... So, they can't both be Chase and United.
they left me message from amazon.com fraud prevention along with case #. Amazon says they don't usually call, only e-mail.
