This is a big fishing scam, apparently. They called me as being Chase's Fraud Dept., asked me for details like SS# and DOB and address. I then called Chase and they said they wouldn't ask for that, and they said they wouldn't have called from that number. Why the hell hasn't the US govt. combated this stuff better -- how can thieves like these operate with an 800 number for 2+ months???
They called me also and said they were from United Airlines Fraud Department? They called my home phone which Orbitz.com and United Airlines do not have. It sounds like fraud to me so I contacted United Airlines about it waiting to hear back from them.
I confirmed with Chase Bank that this is a legit call confirming info on recently submitted Credit Card Apps. They would never ask for SS#.
Received a call from Fraud Prevention. This seems to be Chase Fraud Prevention who runs Credit Cards with other Companies. Valid Phone Call. For me, I had just applied for a Chase Amtrak Credit Card and they verified my information. When Amazon says they dont call people, they may not, but if you applied for perhaps a Chase Amazon Card, Chase will call to verify that you applied for a card and that you are who you say you are.
I got a call from this number this morning saying they were AOL Fraud Protection...they wanted my husband. The account is my account and in my name. I contacted AOL and they don't seem to know whats up...they said they have only one fraud protection line and that is NOT the number. Also, AOL would be asking for me. The real fraud protection at AOL is not open until 10..they called here at 8.
Someone called my cell phone mid-day on Sunday and left a message identifying themselves as Chase fraud prevention, requesting me to call back to 800-278-8830 and reference a case number for an "inquiry" they received. I called back and the message said this was "fraud pevention operations". They were closed ..."Please call back during normal business hours (M-F 7:00AM to 7:00PM mountain time)". No company name was given. This seemed strange since I had received a call two hours before on Sunday.I then called the number on my Chase credit card and got put through to the fraud prevention people. They said that they did not call me and had no record of any calls to me or issues with my account. They said that Chase fraud prevention is on duty 24/7 and the 800 number was not a valid Chase number. They also stated that Chase did not have my cell phone number on record. They advised that someone was apparently trying to pull a scam on me.I have not applied for any credit cards in the past few years so this can not be any legitimate inquiry based on any action(s) taken by me. I have filed a police report with my local police department and put a fraud alert on my credit. I will be calling Chase to provide them this feedback.I have heard of this as a phishing scam intended to lure people into providing critical information such as their SS#, DOB, etc.
Sounds like a scam to me, I have been in the investigation business for over 17 years. They called me and wanted to verify some information for a Chase card. I made them tell me what they have, I never show my cards if you know what I mean. I called back and they asked for my ssn#. NEVER give out your ssn number. I called back several times asking is this was about my Discover, American Express card and one of the operators did not know if she worked for Discover. One time they slipped up and said that they work for ________ Verifications, possibly a 3rd party verification company but the phone number 800-278-8830 they insist they work for Chase. They all refused to give out thier employee ID number and when you call a real chase bank employee will give out the employee ID number. I think this is a collection agency trying to get some information on people.Beware!!!
I received a voicemail from this number and the caller named Mike said he was from Chase Fraud Protection and needed to verify information. I immediately contacted Chase customer service and was told that there was no flag on my account stating that their fraud prevention agency had tried to contact me and that it was most likely a scam. I was also told to not give any information to them.
