The 1-800-347-2683 is the number listed on the Discover Card webpage for U.S. Customer Service (1-800-DISCOVER). I called the number they have listed on their web page, the representative I got confirmed that I had received a call to obtain additional information and check some information that I had aparently gotten cut off on the online application.
We received the "Discover" card call yesterday---claiming they needed to discuss some recent charges made. We don't have a discover card.
Receiving calls from this number. Have never applied for credit card. Very annoying. Don't understand since I am on a do not call list.
Yeah it is Discover. They are required to report suspicious activity on your card. I've looked around and the number seems to be legit. Also the person on the phone gave me numbers to call for legitimate credit agencies to remove fraud from my account. You might want to look more into this!
I received a call from 302.323.5500. I didn't answer and they left a voice message saying someone opened a correspondence with disover and to call back on 1800.347.3072. I called back and they asked for my social and phone number and mailing address. I would not give her anything but my name, explaining that they just called and since they had my name for the call they had my info already. She said that they would put a stop to the account as fraudulent. After that i called the credit bureaus and put a fraud alert. Then I called the phone number on the discover website and they ha no record of me or the "correspondence" Or either of the phone numbers.I'm glad I put a fraud alert and didn't give any info. They are a FRAUD> SCAM>>>
I also received a call from Discover Card Services on the 25th and then Iberia Bank on the 27th. Both of the phone numbers given to me to call back are legitimate and from their respective fraud departments. they are the same phone numbers and messages listed in the above posts. After talking to both banks, I learned that someone, in fact, has my Social and Birthdate etc. and has been applying for credit cards with my info. The individual applying for cards with my name and social listed his address as 567 N. University Drive, Plantation, FL 33324-1483, phone number (818) 216-0697. You must be proactive with this situation: I first contacted Experian and put an initial fraud alert on my account (they forwarded the info to Trans Union and Equifax); I then got my credit reports to check for any damage (if you put a fraud alert on your credit reports or live in certain states you are entitled to free reports); I obtained my credit score (this has a nominal fee attached); I found that there were at least 6 application filed in my name in the past 2 days (listed as credit inquiries on your credit reports); I had to call all of these companies and put a stop on all application activity; I also called all of my existing account holding banks and creditors and put alerts on all accounts; I filed a formal complaint online with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC); I filed a ID theft Police report with my local police Dept.; I am filing a police report with the Plantation Fl police Dept. (this is where the individual lives); And finally, I am going to contact the Social Security Administration to see if they have any suggestions on what I may do about my SSN. What I did pretty well protects my Credit; However, It does not prevent this shady individual from using my social for other pursuits such as obtaining a wireless or cable service, etc. (usually no credit checks required).Good luck to you all and stop this activity in its tracks. I fortunately caught on to it early and no real damage was done. the activity only started on 10/25. hopefully the same is true for the rest of you.
Everyone, this is Discovers Fraud department. If you received a call from them it is probably worth your interest to investigate. As a victim of identity theft, it was good to hear from them and to stop the thief from getting a credit card under my name.
Did receive the same above letter. I called Discover Card Services directly and did discover that someone did try to open an account with my name, dob, and social security number. The person at Discover did confirm that this person was from Flint, MI. This was the same info given to me by the person at the 800 347-3072 number. I did put a fraud alert on my accounts. I am also going to purchase ID protection - just for peace of mind.
