You ARE calling So Cal Gas when you call back, as that is their real number. The scammers spoof this number on CallerID when THEY call you, in order to trick you into answering, thinking it is the real Gas Company.Then they scam you by saying that you owe money and will have your gas turned off if you don't pay right now. You will then be directed to a fake payment website, or will be directed to purchase debit visa/mc cards in order to "pay" the bill. After this, your money is stolen obviously.

These b*stards are truly evil. They are spoofing SoCalGas' 800 number so that you can't block it. I have tried to block this 800 number in my iPhone and yet the calls keep coming through. I have been getting sporadic calls from this number since August 30th of 2017. They called me yesterday (Oct. 22nd) - on a Sunday! The next time I get a call from this number I'm going to pick it up and give them a piece of my mind. Grrr ...

Got my third call from this number, the previous two of which were in June. I would never answer a call from a toll-free number as it's almost certainly going to be from a charitable organization asking me for money, or someone else asking me for money.

Just called with caller id of TOLL FREE NUMBER. I agree that this number has been hijacked. Will tweet to SCE. I think this has happened before.

I am on propane. This number has been hijacked. Not in So Cal Gas Zone. do NOT Answer. Called- left no messge.

No caller ID and no vm msg. But previous info is very informative on this number. Won't be answering!

Looks like some scammer spoofed SoCal Edison’s number.

I do have So Cal Gas but I agree that this number must be being spoofed by scammers. The number got past my blocking service, but they left no message on my machine.The biggest red flag for me was the caller ID of V22017264100589. I know that the V220 is 12-20 (date) and 1726 is the time (5:26pm, which matches my time zone), but NO legit caller has EVER had one of these V caller IDs.

Recorded message about solar and other energy saving programs. Key word "solar" so we know it is likely some spoofed caller using a legit number to cover up their slimy sales tactic. So. Cal Gas has sent mail and included promotions with billing.
