This number is a legitimate Dell Number. My daughter just had to have warranty work done on her laptop and they have called a couple times to talk to her to set up an appointment with the technician and again to make sure her computer is working properly, etc...
Just got a call. It was Dell customer service. Basically a quick survey about my "Dell experience." It seemed legit. They didn't ask for any information other than my name if I had a positive experience with my recent purchase and they rattled off the model I had purchased. It took about 45 seconds.
Here is what I know - Dell uses Microsoft's Lync, when anybody in the company makes a call using Lync (consultants, engineers, salespeople, etc - no matter where they are in the world) the number that pops up on the receiving end is always (800) 456-3355. Good or bad, it is what it is. A friend who works for them calls me this way and that is how it shows up - he works deep inside one of the engineering buildings in Round Rock, TX and can't get a cell phone signal so Lync is the easiest option since there are no phones where he is but you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a computer...Other calls made from inside the company using other communication tools may also show this number on the receiving end, but I do not know this for a fact.
Just got a call from this number. When I answered, the guy said "I'm sorry, I got the wrong number" and hung up. Very weird. I think the earlier poster is right - this is a scammer calling who has programmed his phone system to display Dell's phone number. They will call to see what numbers are working, and then use that list for directed phone spamming.
I noticed charges listed from this number on my debit card on Tuesday. I called my bank and reported fraud charges immediately, before it had been processed, and closed the card down. Now, on Wednesday, this number called my work number (which I absolutely never give out except in direct business situations), and hung up without a message. I had no business with DELL; no system, no software, nothing. So, why would they have my credit card number, and my work number????? I truly believe this is a complete scam.
I just got through asking DFS tp cancel a transaction wirh Dell, because they loaded a software purchase into a "locker" which I could not open and the seller would not accept the three product codes at the web page. I answered the phone but no one responded.
