Got a call from an 888 number saying to call this number back. Called the number on the back of my credit card (same as the 888 number that originally called) and found that it was indeed the NFCU fraud department. I had been afraid it was a pharming/phishing scheme but evidently not.

Legit NFCU fraud number, although people are right in saying that you should only use NFCU's listed phone numbers (on your card or their website).

Had a call from 800-704-8950 pretty much right after I made an online purchase with a credit card. The number IS an NFCU phone number, though not one that is listed. I called Navy to verify, using the 888-842-6328 listed NFCU number. Spoke with a representative who checked the account and said, yes, there was a call made from Navy subsequent to the purchase because of some problems with people stealing card numbers, then buying gift cards, etc., from certain stores. This purchase happened to be from Pottery Barn and this is one store that has been getting hit with fraudulent purchases. I assured him that I had made the purchase and that the phone call came pretty quickly afterwards. So, in this case, all was good. But, he reminded me that if there was any doubt as to the veracity of a call, be sure to call the main number and talk to a rep.

To elaborate on my post above: A little later after I posted I received another automated call from NFCU, but from their REGULARLY listed number, 888 842 6328. In this call, it was phrased a little different, asking for me or my wife . It referenced the purchase, etc. This call was more specific than the first call in it's preliminary phrasing. So, I followed the prompts and confirmed the purchase. Not sure why this one came from the listed phone number. Maybe because I called in my query.

The 800-704-8950 number is a direct line to the Navy Federal's credit card fraud department. I attempted to make a $400 purchase at Walmart with my NFCU Visa and even with a zero balance on the card, the purchase was declined. I had to pay it with my NFCU debit card.After I paid for my merchandise, I was about to call the NFCU from the number on the back of the card when I received a text message from the NFCU. Even with the text message, I called the number on the back of the card and the problem with the card being declined was resolved. It all had to do with a lot of fraudulent activity going on. Not only did they text my celephone, but when I got home, I had a voice mail on my Ooma. It instructed me to call the 800-704-8950 number regarding the problem I had that morning. So, I again called the number on the back of the card, 888-842-6328. I spoke to the fraud department and basically verified what happened this morning. I asked the agent about the 800-704-8950 number on my voice mail and she did in fact confirm it was a direct line to the NFCU fraud department. Like everyone else, I too was skeptical, that's why we have 800notes period com. I use it a lot to see who called me.

4 July 2913 - got the same call - suspected it was bogus. Did this phone check. It is bogus.

Correction - that number is NFCU fraud hotline. Then call reg numbers afterwards to confirm. It is legit. Sorry ... I just called NFCU. They confirmed,
