Just got a call from this number - they were asking for a name that was been asked for by a *different* debt collection company who has periodically called our number for what feels like two years (!).
I got a call in the middle of class from this number. Luckily my phone was on vibrate but I just googled the number now to see if I could find out who called me.
2-16-11: They pretend to be calling for an individual because you are listed as a personal reference, which is a bunch of bull. They do not give their name or any information about the reference. They called on my cell phone, is there any way to block them????
they have been calling me non-stop. they will not say who they are. they calling my other family members and workplace too. don't know what to do! help me!
well I had an experience with someone call united. they called me from and 855 area code. i was told i owed 817.00 dollars and that were in the middle of mediation for the debt owed. She ask me for money and gave me limited information and told me if i did not pay a process will be to my home to serve me papers for court...the alledge processor call me and aske me what will i do. i dont believe this is legit because i was not given any accurate information. she said i assume you wanna go to court. i told her yes and she said she will be at my house in a few to serve me papers. i told her i would not be home and she could come around 530....no one ever showed....This is a scam to pay money over the phone...what out...ask a lot of questions....because they do not have the answers which mean it is a scam
This person called, asked for me, and said he was Steven Stiles on my answering machine. I do not know a Steven Stiles. He did not identify his company or what he wanted.I assume it is a debt collector.
There are plenty of apps available to block unwanted numbers if you have a smart phone!! I pay $2.00/month for "Privacy Blocker" app, and it's SO worth it. I apparently have someone's old cell number who owed A LOT of people money, and was receiving 20+ calls a day asking for some guy I had never heard of. It didn't matter how many times I told them they had the wrong number, and how many times they promised to take me off their list....they never stopped calling. With Privacy Star App, you can block as many #'s as you want, and even block "Private" or "Unknown" calls. It's cool cause it doesn't just make the ring silent, it answers and hangs up on them without your phone ever ringing, so they can't even leave you a voicemail! HAHAHA HALLELLUJIA I am finally free!!!! :D It also has a feature where if you've been on the national do not call list for over 30 days, then you can report telemarketers who call your number and the report gets sent to the FCC, and the company can get fined :) (note: this doesn't work for collection agencies though, only telemarketers. To legally file a complaint against a collection agency, you have to send them a signed cease and desist letter in the mail stating that they are only allowed to contact you by mail, and cannot call you. After that if they call you again, they can be fined).
"Jessie" from "Copier Customer Service" asking for the make and model of the copier at work. Asked for call back number and he hung up.
