This number is legit. My former employer had a breach and gave all of us a one year subscription. When you set up your account, you have to provide your contact phone that you want them to use if there's new activity in your credit history. We just bought a car this weekend, got my All Clear call confirming that I authorized this inquiry.
This is a legitimate call. I was enrolled due to a security breach at a merchant. I set up my phone as directed. You will set a voice que so you can identify future calls as legit. Once you enter your phone number the service calls you back, plays your voice que, asks for the PIN you established, then tells you what triggered the alert (new credit inquiry, new credit line, etc). If your insurance carrier was compromised or you were affected by the Target security breach you were enrolled with AllClear ID.
This is a LEGITIMATE security firm. I was issued from a merchant one free year of service for a compromised account and they also provide free consultations for life once signed on as a member, so you may have contracted with them for the free service in the past. The only confusion here is that the service does NOT provide credit MONITORING. It only helps out ONCE an account has been compromised and thereby reported, so your remark about their voice mail stating a problem with your report is somewhat confusing however.
continuation of above post... Someone mentioned spoofing the number. That's always possible. I was sent written material when auto-enrolled in AllClear ID. If you never received written material or notification due to a security breach, a spoofed number is always a possibility. If you have your own personal credit monitoring service, that service should notify you as well. If in doubt, maybe call AllClear ID directly. Just like a cold call from your "credit card", always best to be safe.
Called to alert about a change in my credit report. Won't vouch for the legitimacy of all their calls or whether scammers spoof this number, but it was legitimate in my case.
Return the call! All Clear ID is a credit monitoring company and notify you when ANY activity appears on your credit account.
False alarm. Got calls from this number to my cell and home phone, and an email. After reading reviews, got scared and called another # for AllCrear ID to find out what was going on - and to speak to a human, not machine. The 855 # is theirs indeed, they use it to alert customers, and the call was legit - I opened another credit card and they got suspicious. Good job :)
This is a legitimate company that monitors your credit. The larger companies that have been hacked, had to pay for credit monitoring for millions of people as part of their settlements. Mine was set up through the Anthem insurance company settlement. They call your number on file to make sure that it is you, and they have security settings/questions set up to make sure it is you, and then ask you if you were aware of the recent credit inquiry or purchase. You say yes or no and it's taken care of. It's for your protection. If you call them, they will call you back on the number they have on file. They don't answer questions about you if you call into them without answering security information.
