I was skeptical as well. So I called the comcast number I knew was correct and they told me the same thing. So it's legit. But always better to be cautious
So I received an email and a door hangar saying there was a potential issue with my service. I immediately thought it was a scam.So I called the main comcast number and spoke with them. It is in fact a LEGIT comcast number.Their systems apparently detect when your incoming service may not be up to par and they send a tech out to scope it out.I set an appointment with a customer service person for Sunday I'll update after that.
I have received several voice mails from this number stating they were from Comcast and that their monitoring system detected a possible issue with my network system. I did not call the number back, however I did call Comcast customer support to inquire about the legitimacy of the robo calls. The representative told me my account would be notated if they were trying to get in touch with me. She said they had, in fact, been trying to reach me and they I should also have received an email from them as well. I check my email while on the phone, and there it was...with the same contact number as the robo calls. She also stated their technicians have been knocking on door when they have available free time. When in doubt, check it out. Ask for ID and call the company (especially when the person is standing at your door). This is simple due diligence, and in this day and age we all need to whatever we can to protect ourselves and one another. Please don't just take my word for it....call Comcast and verify.
As many others have reported, this phone is indeed a fake number. Since there was conflicting information on whether it is authentic, I contacted Comcast directly, and the customer service rep spent about 5 minutes searching the number through their record, and came back to confirm that the number does NOT belong to Comcast, and recommended that I block the number.
Got call from this number. Caller said a problem might exist on my cable. Wanted to schedule appt. I said had to call back after checking my times available. Called Comcast on their toll free 800 number. Was a legit call, so always call to check with company number to verify. Too many scams not to check.

I got an EMAIL from Xfinity with the message that they detected a fault in my home cable wiring and needed to check it. The email gave the number 1-855-538-4277 for me to call to schedule an appointment. I was skeptical (because of all the suspicion expressed here in this site - I generally check phone numbers before I call back), but I DID notice a short Internet outage yesterday, so I went online to Xfinity to see if there were any messages about a problem in my home in my online account. There were none. Then I noticed they had a new mobile app for my iPad, so I downloaded it and installed it. The FIRST thing the app did was to give me the same message as I'd received by Email! I contacted Xfinity via this their mobile app and made an appointment. Xfinity service guy said the message was indeed legit, and so I scheduled a visit. I have NOT checked out the 855 telephone number myself. But it would have to be a very complex scam indeed for the number not to be legit, since I found I really do have a problem Xfinity wants to fix for free. My conclusion is Xfinity/Comcast has some problems with communication (go figure: they're in the communication business!), exacerbated by actual scammers out there who are phishing and giving legitimate businesses a hard time. It always pays to be careful.
VALID CALL FROM COMCAST. I called comcast Customer service. It is legit and I scheduled an appointment straight from the legit service number.
Follow up from my original message 18 July. LEGITIMATE COMCAST or XFINITY: I scheduled a visit through their mobile app. They also called my cellphone to confirm the appointment. Tech arrived on schedule. Found noise due to two unused cable outlets in my house. Removed 3-way splitter and installed a ground block. Noise gone. Thanks, Xfinity. BTW They are improving their network because they are going to offer a Gigabit service soon which requires a better, less noisy network. That explains their eagerness, when they aren't usually noted for taking the initiative in customer service. I'm sure they plan to up-sell speed and bandwidth soon. So, take their offer.
