I have the same problem only difference is the amout... mine is 54.79 $ Took the same steps you did. HBC has nothing on me what so ever. HBC asked me to call that 1-855-855-1944 again and aske them to give me the account # they have , so far they haven't called me back with an account # but they are still calling leaving messages for me to call they back....
This number has been calling to my home number and demanded to talk about clearing up your good standings. What bad standings? There is none here. When I called back. There is no indication of a government collection agency rather than a rude service personnel on the other line saying to watch your good standings. I don't know about those who are gullible to these things. But this is simply a criminal activity that needs to be dealt with. No government workers would respond to you so rudely. Even a collection agency!
I have been receiving calls on my cell phone that vary from good news about your account to you need to contact us right away or action will be taken. Only leaves the phone number. They do not tell you what account or any reference number. Not sure what to do about this one.
well im very glad i came here before i did what the guy said. he called me saying the same all above does and ya was very rude and short sentensed. he told me i have till today to pay or i will go to court but had my account number. i dunno if it be real or not. but i do no i did have money oweing to the zellerswhat do i do
I got the call from these fools today for the first time ever, on my cell phone I might add, which is a private number.. saying that they have tried to call me numerous times and been unsuccessful. Nice try? No company name left, only a number to call back on, saying if I wanted to keep my good standing, I would call them back. No real person either, it was all automated. I don't owe zellers anything (just going by the posts above), we don't even have one here. So I'm not going to run up my cell bill to call back a company that can't even leave their damn name on my voicemail. From what I can see, this is a scam.
I have been getting these messages for a couple days now. its not really a scam, just some really questionable tactics. Read all your comments, and decided to call them back. They told me I had a charge on an HBC card that was owing. I don't even remember what the amount was, and I don't really care. In my case the conversation stopped after the first item below: they had the wrong person entirely, and I refused to give them my name until they identified the debt, and the debtor. In general I follow these step with debt collectors. (I have a common name and i am misidentified a lot)First thing: Tell them that they will need to prove the debt. be firm, you won't pay anything until you see a signed receipt. (even if you do owe the money this will likely cause them to offer you a much smaller settlement because its not worth their effort)Second thing: tell them that all communication must now go through postal mail and you will not accept any telephone communication from them. Again be firm. they will lie, and bluster, but it is your right to require this.Last: if they actually do come through and show you a reciept. offer them a lower amount. 10 - 20% of the value should be acceptable to them. (they buy these debts at about 3-5 cents on the dollar)
This morning I received 4 calls within 4 minutes from this 855-855-1944 number. No messages were left on my voicemail. I saw on here that other people had said it was maybe for HBC.I called HBC and they have NO record of me ever owing an outstanding balance. Probably because I never had a HBC credit card.I called TransUnion Canada to review my credit report and to see if I had any outstanding debts to anyone, and after they researched my name and info, they said that I do not owe anything to anyone. And they show no record of me EVER having an HBC credit card. He went through my entire credit history with me and said I owe nothing. The rep at TransUnion said this sounds like a scam from NRC. They said that if I truly owed any sort of outstanding balance, they would be able to see it, no matter how old it might be.
