that is exactly hat happened to me. I was told if I did not give more security .( answer more questions,) than no computer. I have had to cancel my credit cad. I will never, ever trust Dell again. what an unfortunate experience; I have spent four hours on this and been so upset. What was meant to be a good thing ( buying a computer for my daughter) has turned out to be a very unfortunate experience of anger and stress. By the dates of these emails Dell knows what is going on.
I have been reading these posts because I was a victim of the man at this telephone number today. Why is Dell using India as the place for their fraud department? The Indian man told me he already has all my details and my birth date. He told me he is cancelling my order, (because I would not tell him answers to more personal questions). It seems to me that Dell is abusing their customers; I felt abused tonight and I am a senior citizen. I got so angry with the questions I was being asked that I feel ill afterwards from my high blood pressure. This was my first order with Dell and my last. I have cancelled my credit card, and spent an entire evening on this "security check" from Dell via India. There must be another way for Dell to protect its company and its customers. Why India.?And why the tactics that this man in India takes? My order was already processed yet he spoke to me on the telephone as though I am a crook. Do I pay my hard earned dollars to Dell to be abused by Dell's fraud dept in India? I do not agree with those who write that it is for our own safety or good. There must be another way. One large company outsourced to one of the countries that outsourcing goes to, and the employees in that country, (after years of being very good employees) took away all the personal information of all the customers in one European country and used credit card numbers and personal information: total identity theft. If I had known Dell outsourced I would not have used them. It has been one night of total stress and now a cancelled credit card.Is this Dell protecting its customers?
I too had my order cancelled for not wanting to devulge personal information to someone who could not even prounounce my name or say my phone number. I called my bank and had them issue a freeze on my card. Don't want someone using my card in another country. Not mention the caller was rude and very uncusotmer friendly. Dell needs to bring their credit card fraud back to this country. I was very reluctant to order from Dell in the first place so now I am even more afraid. Thanks for the info on NewEgg.
I find it bizarre that some of you are freaking out at Dell because they are going above and beyond to protect YOU from being a victim of fraud. If they called its because they detected irregularities and want to make sure the purchase was actually made by you and not someone who stole your information. This number does belong to Dell Ive dealt with this department but for other reasons.
I received an email to call this number (I ordered a dell last night). It said to log in an extension and I did. It went to someone's personal voice mail box. I called and waited for customer service. I got a guy in India who was super rude. He told me youre calling dept 1800 if you get disconnected and hung up. I called the dell customer service directly and everything was fine with my order and it was shipping as ordered. So no idea if this is a real number, if it is dell has hired the rudest most incompetent people ever then. Nothing was wrong with my credit card or anything when I called customer service fyi
This is from Dell. I ordered a DELL when I was in France and to ship to my home in US. DELL sent me email with "order delayed" and asked me to call 1-866-383-4713 Ext 4161353. So I google to see if the phone number is good. And called the next day. DELL only wanted to verify the shipping address and also told me that my order was flagged, because my IP address is outside US.
