I received the phone call as well. It is important to call. They will have you verify the number they called and go over your last couple transactions with you just to make sure it's you. They just have you verify information. They already know it. The security on my card was reset. So yes, call, or your security of your card may be blocked.
I got a call from this number asking to verify some charges on my SDCCU issued credit card. They had my current card and my previous card on record, and went over a list of charges that had been flagged suspicious. It turns out the charges had been flagged as suspicious activity because the card was new and therefore had no usage history, so naturally the current activity didn't match the historical activity. They're definitely legit as they had a bunch of information that, had it been in the hands of a scammer, would have meant I was screwed anyway.
As far as we know this number is legit. there were charges on our card that we didn't spend. My husband ended up calling Master Card so he could talk to a real person though, automated part didn't help. We're getting new cards. Damn people who use other people's credit cards. I'm so sick of it.
I could describe my (positive) experience like the other UNFCU member did on 20 May 2010, except that in my case there was actually a $282 fraudulent transaction charged against my card. The person instructed me on whom from my FCU to call, who in turn sent me a packet to initiate a fraud investigation.
Was a legit call from a company verifying a purchase I made from canada, they even had the name of the place. They had too much of my information already infront of them to be "random" and never asked for my account number, only the number they called me at and the last 4 of my SS
I got the same call on my cell, and called back from another phone. They asked for the # of the phone the message was left on, it is the same as registered to my account. Asked for the last 6 digits of the account, made sense to confirm who I was since they left the last 4 digits in their message. Asked for last 4 of my SSN, another confirmation of info that is easily available from alot of sources. They then had me confirm some purchases and asked if I wanted to confirm more. So I confirmed the last 20 purchases I made while I had my account info on screen from the banks internet site. They had every one of them corrrect. Conclusion: they already had my full account information and if they were frauds they wouldn't have bothered to call, they would have been making purchases.
This IS legit! I didn't think so at first, but then I read these blogs and tried it and there were transactions on my account that I did NOT make. THANK YOU card servics!
It does seem like a scam, but after recieving it I immediately called my credit union and they verified it was a third party company contracted by them...
Hi All, Received message described above and went to look at my balance. I have nothing noted on the card, and found the following message from my credit union when I looked at their Fraud page:"We’re also working hard to make sure every credit card transaction is valid. If we flag your transaction as being potentially fraudulent, you will be contacted by someone at the credit union to verify the charges. We will NOT, however, ask you for personal financial information or card numbers." I think that this call is sketch, as they asked for my full CC information in the message.
