I got the same email and phone call. Came up as a scam on google, so I called national SSA number from their website. 35 minute wait time so it HAD to be legit. The woman was very pissy (fairly legit) but she gave me the # for me the local SSA office in Rutland VT. 5 minute wait there -- so maybe legit. The woman seemed very with it and eventually I gave all my info. Might have been a bad idea, but she said I should have received a letter by now and that the number above is legit (866-964-7317). Finally I called this number and got a voicemail asking for my name and SS#. I hung up. If this is a scam its a MIGHTY good one -- and I just fell for it. Just realized that the thing to do is give incorrect info to these folks and see if they catch it. Too late for me maybe. Just in time for you.

This number seems to be a valid number for Social Security. Called a few minutes after four and it said this was the SS Administration and their offices were closed, open 9 AM - 4 PM Mon-Friday. So may be legit.

I got an email from Boramy Ma at Social Security Admin to call him at 866-964-7317 ext29272 concerning additional info needed on my SS Ben Claim. I Googled his Name "Boramy Ma" and he is employed by SSA. Number is legit.

This is a valid # for Social Security's Boston office.

I got the same phone call from 866-964-7317, Mrs Deph, who kept asking for confirmatory info about me so we could talk and I could pick a date for benefits to start. I told them to send me a letter with the choices and I'd get back to them, which she refused to do and instead sent an email with return address DoNotReply@ssa.gov asking me again to call her back.Looking at this chain of emails it's clear to me the bad guys can also get on here and report this very questionable number/approach as legit after they supposedly "checked it out" when it seems very much a plot by a bunch of crooks. I wish we had robust enough resources that they could track them down and put them in jail.
