This number is for your protection for a new application! Did you apply for a new credit card? Wow, you got a call right after you applied? ?That seems like fraud to you? Your banking dept or debit card dept has nothing to do with the credit card dept, they would not know that the fraud prevention dept called you.
I applied for a Chase Business CC and received a letter saying that I needed to verify some information (including my SS#). Being hesitant to just give that information away so readily, I went online and called Chase's customer service line and had them verify this number. The number did check out, so my fears were removed.
Looks like a shill for the fraud posting here folks -- beware of this fake Chase phishing scam.
Got a call asking for another family member. Said it was Chase calling about card activity (caller's name was Ezra). Did not SPECIFICALLY state that it was the fraud dept. When told that the family member was unavailable, was given this number (888 204 8630) along with a reference number to have the family member call back. Called Chase at their number on the card and that rep said no one had called us today from Chase!
