Received the call on my cell phone!! Operator said this was a collect call from william cooper. I dont know this person and hung up!! # was 919-647-9755.

Regardless of what others are saying about this number, it is NOT a scam. It's a legitimate number from a legitimate calling company for inmates incarcerated in NC. The caller may have realized, once the call was answered, that they had dialed the wrong number, explaining why so many people are reporting hangups. The recording proceeds to explain how to use your credit card to put funds on your phone if you WANT to receive calls from an inmate, it does NOT ask for your credit card information otherwise. If you don't know anyone who is incarcerated in NC the call wasn't meant for you to begin with, people mistakenly dial the wrong number quite frequently, even from jail. Not everyone is out to get you.

...don't understand that scammers routinely spoof legitimate numbers....

7:38 p.m. msg on machine: (first part missed because incoming msg pre-recorded) ... "....Wagner, an inmate at the Avery Mitchell Correctional Institute. To accept call press 5, bla,bla,bla, to stop future calls dial 1 866 230 7761. To reject call, hang up." Machine still recording. Whole message repeated. Then "call not accepted". Disconnected. Five minutes later, second call, same message!.Check 1 866 230 7761 and you can read about people who accepted the call because they knew someone in jail, and actually gave a credit card number or bank number and were robbed by someone in jail! (Allegedly....all crooks are innocent until proven guilty, bla, bla,bla).Thank you 800notes.com. Please add call type : "Con-Artist" or "Scam".

If not a spoofed number scam, must be a wrong number. I don't know LONNIE WAGNER in jail. Will call the legitimate GTL number tomorrow to report it.

I had two msg on answering machine, and one call after I got home. Msg said call 1 866 230 7761 to block future calls. It is a legitimate "GTL" company for inmate to call family. Sorry "Lonnie Wagner", I don't know you. Wrong Number. I called GTL 866 and had ALL calls from inmates blocked.
