These idiots started up again today. I have a call blocker that will block up to 1500 numbers they can change all they want to but they will be blocked. I can't believe that this type of scam artists can not be put out of business with the technology we have today. I am on the state and national Do Not Call List which I refer to as "The Do Nothing List". I know that these type calls are not covered on the list but they should be.
I have received about 5 calls from this outfit. They always use a different number. They never leave a message. From what I have read on here it is better to just ignore them. I don't think it is possible to get them to listen to you. I made the mistake of talking to them once and they claimed that I owed over $1000 on a credit card that I cancelled in 1999 which is way beyond the statute of limitations in my state. After some words back and forth I was asked if I lived at a certain address and if my SS number was XXXXX. I replied no to both and the guy said sorry, he would write it up as a wrong number. Still they call. Strangely, they call about every four days, in the afternoon. I have had identity theft problems in the past and the legit collection agencies notify the credit reporting companies, and if they call they leave a detailed message and a call back number. They also listen if you mention ID theft because I think there are laws prohibiting them from bothering you if you have an ID theft case under investigation. At least they are not supposed to call you until the case is decided. It seems that this is just a bunch of bullying crooks.
I'm not sure about calls made on Sundays, however it is illegal for these agencies to call you after 9PM. You could actually claim harrassment & relieve yourself from the debt altogether. Make sure to record time & day the agency calls you.
Portfolio recovery is harassing my family with a new number. They call with and remain silent when the phione is picked up.
Stop calling my office number, jack! I inherited the number from some guy who just died from cancer five weeks ago... I had to look up this number after five consecutive calls without an answer in a 6-minute time period... Really, do your research before blindly shotgunning people's numbers!
Two years ago, I filed for bankruptcy and all my debts ( I owed $2000 and ended up with $22,000 in "interest and late fees" from debt collector scums) were dismissed. A year later these idiots call me to collect on a debt that a federal court ruled on and I gave them my lawyer's number and the bankruptcy info. Now it is another year and they are calling again. They do not leave a message, have not sent a collection letter and no one is on the line when I answer the call. I plan to sue them for harassment as soon as I get something in writing from them or can get a recording if they ever come on the phone line. They are total A**Holes that constantly try to scam people out of money that did not even belong to them. I tried to pay the original creditors when I got back on my feet and they told me the debts were sold to bill collectors and they could not take my money any more since they no longer owned the debt.
Here's some more to add to the list from my part of town,708-991-2137 (ext.500 lol), (free ADT system.........NOT!)1-888-576-6713708-991-2631 620-263-3537 These guys hire out local [***] who set up a dummy company to scam people into collecting debt. And by scam, no I do NOT mean simply calling you & harrassing you for money you owe. I mean, they take advantage of your current situations to get you to call them. For example, my house had been broken into 2 1/2 weeks ago & a bunch of stuff was taken. Then these guys call me up offering me a "Free ADT Alarm" system with just having to pay the monthly "on" fee. They played upon the fears of my family in order to get us to pay our debt or get us in court. I think it may be for my Father but he's been dead for a few years & hasn't lived in this home for nearly 20 years. Interestingly enough, about two weeks before our house was broken into somebody was trying to serve papers for my Father and my mother went ballistic on him. Makes me wonder if this is just a coincidence or if this company has some sort of "side contracters" that do whatever it takes, incl. robbing somebody in order to get some money.Hmmm. Either way, that's a low-class scum way of trying to manipulate someone. Taking advantage of a tragedy & loss such as that just to get what's left over, lol which ain't [***] now. I guess they can come clean up the mess the robbers made cuz that's all they're going to get.
