although the caller id says "wireless caller", the phone is registered as a landline in Texas...very sketchy.
When I answer a call like this I make up a new language on the fly. I say something with the right cadence but just gibberish otherwise -- like, "Gup no sudo bun?" Usually they say, "Hello?" I repeat, "Gup no sudo bun?" in a hurry up I'm busy voice. Usually they say, "Anyone home who speaks English?" So I pull the phone away as if I'm asking around and say to the room, "Goff nad sallay ifpsh non." They usually hang up at that point and hopefully take me off whatever list I was on. If not, I use an apologetic voice while saying a short bit of goodbye gibberish.
when I didn't answer I got a really obnoxious noise; it there anything I can do about this?
Received call from 214-283-1316 - I was already on a call it came through on call waiting.. The caller ID showed a Steve B. calling.. when I was done with my original call.. I tried calling the number and a recording said - "No Longer In Service"
I have been recieving calls from this number (214-283-1316) for several weeks now, an i have reported it an still get them nothing has ever been done. I had the number looked up an it is a Texas number but the call is coming out of St Louis ,Missouri. This is a bunch of BS nothing can be done to them when you are on the no call list..
Caller ID read SURVEY. Didn't answer. I've set my phone for the answering machine to cut in after four rings. Then my voice says: "Hello, hello. We're on the do-not-call list, so salespeople, politicians, charities and scammers, hang up now. Anyone else, please leave a message after the beep." I do get repeat attempts and block them. Have gotten over 15 calls from Novatel but don't know if it's a fake number. Call your phone manufacturer for instructions on how to block call such as Unavailable/Unavailable, Unavailable/Out of area, or with no name and no number. That eliminates many; they are cut off after one ring. My phone is a Panasonic. The tech was helpful and I haven't had an anonymous call since. Try it.
I have a list of 9 numbers that are bugging me. If it is an area code i'm not familiar with I don't answer.
