I'll bet that someone in the Social Security data food chain is leaking information to scammers. Suggest you call the cops and have them listen in when you return any of these calls.

The telephone number, 215-597-5657 is an out of service, and past Social Security number. I called the Federal Trade Commission and was told that the government will never call you and will always use mail. This is a scam.

I got the exact same thing - no message, I googled the number and it came up as SSA (I did apply for benefits) and the same 800 number was on the recording and the same number on my phone 215-597-5657 that someone on this posting documented. Good suggestion not to give personal info over the phone but I do know from a friend at work that SSA does call the applicant once the file has been submitted. Could be legit.I appreciate the postings. thanks

I received a phone called from 215-597-5657, the women claimed to be from Social Security Administration. She did not give her name or her employee number. She left personal information on an answering machine, without verifying if she even had the right person. Normally, Social Security asks many questions in order to verify the person they are speaking to, before indulging any information. Also, the phone call was received on a Sunday morning at 9:03 AM and the person had a similar name to mine and my sons, but it was not correct. If you should get any phones like this, DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION, DO NOT RETURN A PHONE CALL TO THIS NUMBER OR ANY LIKE IT, AND REPORT CALLS LIKE THIS TO SOCIAL SECURITY AND YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT. Anything that social security needs is NORMALLY received through the mail.

Legit number for Social Security application claims processor. Just applied for Soc Sec retirement and someone from this number helped me work out my benefits and approved my application.

The 215.597.5657 is actually a legitimate number. It is a PA Social Security Administration number.

Received a call from 215-597-5657 last Saturday afternoon. Caller ID showed: GENERAL SERVICE. I was skeptical, so I let it go to voice mail. Caller identified herself as "Marisha" with the Social Security Administration (yeah, I bet that's her real name -- just like "Peggy" from the Discover Card commercials) and instructed me to return her call as soon as possible at 866-431-3875 ext. 32172. I assumed this was in response to my on-line filing application for Medicare. I tried the 866-431-3875 number (without the extension) and was greeted with a message that I had reached the "Philadelphia Immediate Claims Taking Unit" and their business hours are 6AM - 6PM M-F. (It's a bit curious that Marisha was working on a Saturday). I entered her extension, but it just rang and rang. I've been trying that number at least eight times a day for the past week! No one ever answers and there is no option to leave a message. Monday I called the 866-431-3875 number and pressed 0 "to speak with the next available agent". I was informed "...all available agents are busy and to leave my name, phone number, and my SSN and someone would return my call." I left my contact info (but NOT my SSN) and mentioned I was returning Marisha's call. That was five days ago and no one has returned my call. Perhaps this is a legit number for SSA and this is just the level of service I should expect from the government agency tasked with assisting the elderly. No wonder the local SSA office has to have an ARMED GUARD in the waiting room and signs on the wall warning that threatening a government official is a felony punishable by a fine and prison time.
