I applied for a credit card from BOA about a month ago and got accepted, then started receiving calls from this number and another in Texas, BEFORE I EVEN ACTIVATED OR USED THE CREDIT CARD!!! So nobody - no person, no business - should have any information from me except Bank of America. If it's not BOA calling, it's someone to whom they provided my information. Just got another call a minute ago and I still have not used the card to make even one purchase, though I have activated it now. I have not answered any of the calls because I do not know anyone in Texas or Ohio.
They called my home on 9-17-12 and the caller I.D. said Bank of America. I know FOR A FACT this is a phishing scam because people from the same number called my mother's home and asked for me. I just happened to be visiting at the time. I don't live there, and her phone number IS NOT attached to any account I have at the bank. But, without thinking, she handed me the phone. The female on the other end asked me about a resent account I had opened at the bank, and if I was happy with it, and knew how everthing worked. Without giving her any information, I asked her why she was calling me at my mother's phone number, and said "you need to take this number off my account." Then she said "well, in order for me to do that, you'll have to answer a few questions first so I will know that you are you." They had just CALLED and ASKED for me, for pete's sake, seemed to know all about me, and NOW she NEEDED to verify who I was by asking for MORE of my personal info!??? I don't think so! I told this lady that I don't give personal info out over the phone and she said "I understand. Well you're welcome to us back at this number." Then she gave me some bogus number to call her back. I called my bank immediately, at a number I knew to be my bank, and they said they had NOT called me, would not call me, asking for any personal info, and did not even have a phone number like that.I called the FTC and the FBI regarding these people and reported what happened immediately. I'm surprised (really, I shouldn't be) that they are still calling months later USING the SAME exact number. These people are out there, evidently scamming any naive, trusting, person they can find, pure and simple!I never answer calls from numbers/people I don't know. And I'm trying to train my sweet trusting mother to do the same thing.
Called asking for me. I called back and asked what institution it was, the gal stammered and finally said "Bank of America." I told her to remove me from their contact lists.
It is Bank of America and they used my phone number to look up my name and advise me why they were calling. Just a "thank you" for doing business with them. Imagine it is because I recently made some changes to my accounts with them. They were not trying to sell me anything; hook me up with a financial advisor; etc. - just a courtesy call.
216-545-8326 has called my cell four times in the last week. I usually don't answer any number I don't know. I figure if they want to talk to me bad enough they'll leave a message--which no one from this number ever does. Annoying.
Okay so why do people who don't have an account at Bank of America get calls from a number claiming to be Bank of America? Answer: Scammers spoof their numbers, pretend to be Bank of America and start acting. Even if people have an account at Bank of America and if there's a problem, they'll go to their bank and ask a bank employee for help. A scammer on the phone is a liar.
