They are so stupid. What happens if someone disconnects a number and you pick up that number in the future, these dummies call you for years when you had nothing to do with the debt. This firm is a bunch of idiots. You want to know how stupid they are? We have some firm's old number. They started calling just a few days later. We spent about 2 minutes on google and found out the old firm was dissolved years ago. So we told Portfolio Recovery that. Guess what, they keep calling anyway. Worse thing you can do is pick up the phone and talk to them.
If you knew how to stop them would you do it? Try reading and learning. Start at the CFPB web site. Then go to your state attorney general's web site.
I have gotten calls AND letters from PRA for YEARS on accounts that are older than my KIDS. The letters go straight to the shredder (or the bottom of my birds' cages or cat's litterbox), and calls are blocked once I find out it's them.
this number called our place of business looking for an employee. Trying to find an employee at their place of work trying to collect on a debt is illegal.

Someone using this number called, when I answered there seemed to be there cut I said "hello" twice and no one said a thing. I hung up. If it was a collector they would not only answer but keep you on the line for as long as it took.
