They "got" your number from a computer that dials all numbers in an area code and exchange in sequence. Unless they identify you by the name registered to your phone number chances are very good it was just computer generated by their robodialer.

Since when do criminals obey any laws? Virtually anyone can dial your number and ring your phone and no list of Do Not Call numbers can prevent that. Legally operating telemarketers (oxymoron I know) do remove numbers on the list before making sales calls so that tells you all you need to know about the sales calls you do receive. Many try to skirt the law by using a "survey" but if the purpose of the "survey" is to qualify you as a sales lead that call is covered by the DNC regulations.

William, your advice to never answer a caller you don't know is the best advice there is. That the rule we follow. Unfortunately over the last 4 years we've received over a 1000 calls from the Card Services scammers and we've never answered a single call. Your advice may work for some scammers, but certainly not for others. If no one answered then maybe the problem would end.

Called early this A.M. A woman said "Congratulations" and I hung up Number was identified as a wireless call.

Called on 02/25/2014 @ 11:16 AM from Milwaukee, WI. We ignore all callers we don't recognize. 99.9% of these callers hang up on 4 or fewer rings. Our voicemail is set for 5 rings. No message was left which is what is in our best interest.

June 5, 11:13am, Western KY, 2 calls from 414-232-5011,one minute apart. They must have my number from the 661-748-0240 scammers that claim to be from Dell Computers. I just found my whistle and I am eagerly awaiting a third call.

This number was on caller Id. I called it back and the voice recording said "Butt Head"

I did that one time. I answered with "Lake County Sheriff's Office". It was a friend calling, and he said, "This is Deputy Fife" (from the Andy Griffith TV show).

Free cruise call. Told him I get sea sick and asked for his name so I could offer him a free yard care product, (dog doo). He told me no thanks and hung up on me, such nerve.
