Forgot to mention that I had missed the first call from Macy's 480-929-3000 and they called back within a few minutes from this number 513-398-5221. This was my first time purchasing from the Macy.com website online E gift cards and they called me to verify the email I was sending the E gift cards to. I expect the next time I order the E gift cards they will call me again to verify the email I will send it to as well. This was holiday season 2013. It's good to know they help to make sure your purchase is true and correct as there are too many identity thefts, stolen cards, and human error when keying in information.
I put an order this morn in to Macy's, they called me and hung up when I answered. If they wanted to verify, they should have stayed on the line as a normal business would. Calling and hanging up when I answer is hugely unprofessional, I won't buy from Macys again if this is the underhanded business behavior they want to put forth.
I don't have a Macy's account and I haven't shopped there in years. I did not answer. But thank you for letting us know.
I don't care if it really is Macy's or not, but leaving a voicemail with someone asking me to return a call and be ready to hand over my account number seems unbelievably stupid. It is even dumber if it really is the Macy's fraud department asking you to give your account number over the phone to some random stranger......something that you are told NEVER to do. No other bank or credit card company EVER asks for your account number over the phone or leaves you voicemails asking to return a call with your account number handy. I think they have the most absurd fraud department and whoever runs it should be fired. I checked my statement and have no charges at all that would be suspicious or even any recent large purchases. I don't have time to chase down these idiots trying to verify if it's really Macy's or not to verify a $20 purchase that I know I made.
I work in the Fraud Department at Macy's and the majority of you have no idea what you are talking about. There are reasons that Macy's asks certain questions, doesn't answer other questions, calls you, etc...and it all pertains to protecting account information and keeping people from being able to circumvent their anti-fraud measures by knowing what Macy's looks for and why.
P.S. @LC.....The reason that you probably don't have any weird charges on your statement may be because Macy's system caught the account discrepancy when someone tried to use your card number to buy something and the order was automatically canceled and then they put a call in to you. Their system tells them when a card number's account owner info doesn't match up with various information pertaining to the person trying to use the card (the country they're trying to use it from, etc etc).....Stop being such an angry idiot and be grateful maybe??
So Ruby claims she works for Macy's Fraud Prevention, and calls LC and people like her "angry idiots". ,Sounds to me like one more good reaon to never sign up for a Macy's credit card.
I've saved this number to my caller ID under "scam" so if they call again I'll know to ignore it.
