Someone with a broken Indian accent just called from this number claiming to be from Dell and told me my computer was downloading viruses. What's disturbing is he had my first and last name. I hung up.
Whether or not you have to renew it is moot. These are outlaws. They don't abide by the law. Furthermore, the DNC people won't protect you, either. Their main job is self-perpetuation. They say it is to "follow trends," even though the biggest trend, phone scams, is already well established, and the IT people they hire are not top drawer. They will send you a Xerox sheet telling you that you can sue the caller, but we all know the numbers are spoofed and cannot be traced, so good luck with that. Treat scam callers the same way you would if a home invader or rapist banged on your door: it is up to you to protect yourself, the police will never be there in time to protect you and neither will DNC/FTC. You wouldn't answer the door or open it just because someone banged on it, and would feel no compunction to be courteous or even get up to answer. The same with phone scammers. Both are predators who mean you great harm. And for goodness' sake, go to Costco and get yourself a new phone system, one that has caller ID on each phone and includes the ability to audibly screen calls without having to pick up or even get up. Between screening and caller ID, you should be able to figure out which calls are scams, and the rest, you can check here before answering. I've had an increase since the weekend, too, no idea why. Very few get under my radar.
The DNC list isn't worth the time and effort it takes to be put on it. Another government waste of money joke.
This same exact number is calling me too and it called about 4 times in a row I could pick up as I was in a meeting but it was very annoying as it happened yesterday exactly at the same time
Read my advice above to Annoyed about call screening and caller ID. It will reduce the number of calls considerably but you may never get rid of them entirely, any more than you can stop junk mail in your US mailbox.
Tell them that's interesting because you don't have an ISP or a computer... Or tell them you have Apple. ;)
